A councilman in LA also says ICE went to a confidential DV shelter this week. Other domestic violence shelters are preparing for the same, especially in light of DHS guidance from the Trump administration that says they can conduct enforcement at DV shelters.

As I report here for @motherjones.com, a local lawmaker in LA says ICE showed up to a confidential domestic violence shelter. That’s just one of the many impacts they’ve had on shelters & survivors this past week ⬇️
"On Wednesday, LA city councilor Hugo Soto-Martinez said in a video posted to Instagram that ICE had shown up at a confidential domestic violence shelter, apparently in search of one person who was not present." www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
LA's ICE raids are impacting domestic violence shelters
These programs "should be safe sanctuaries—and we can't even guarantee that anymore."

The Trump administration is "willing to not just slash and burn research that challenges their political ideology but to replace it with shoddy studies designed to support their goals, under the guise of scientific legitimacy," @katherinejwu.com writes.

The Trump administration is manipulating government-sponsored research to get the answers it wants.

Clearly the goal was never about creating safety within the US. Violence prevention efforts are critical to reducing violence, harm, and homicide prevention. Duh - it’s violence prevention the name kinda explains it.
The Trump administration is slashing jobs at the divisions responsible for studying and preventing gun violence. The CDC’s Division of Violence Prevention lost an estimated three-quarters of its staff.
CDC Teams That Study Gun Violence and Collect Data Are Decimated by Layoffs
The Trump’s administration’s cuts come after the field of gun violence research saw renewed federal support during the Biden era.

The abuser’s classic playbook is to isolate you from your friends, create a sense of helplessness, make it difficult to connect with others and force you to simply think about your survival from one day to the next. We are seeing that playbook applied to the nation as a whole.

Strom Thurmond had the longest filibuster on record - to block civil rights.

@corybooker.com is about to break his record fighting for our freedom.

This is the kind of record worth breaking.
I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:

I think a lot about this quote from Anaïs Nin’s diary from 1939-1944:

“America is in even greater danger because of its cult of toughness, its hatred of sensitivity, and someday it may have to pay a price for this, because atrophy of feeling creates criminals”.

sign an executive order into law is not how any of this works
Fun one from today that nobody seems to be clocking amidst all the more substantive chaos. The White House comms department is now declaring that Trump can now "sign [an] executive order into law" without a bill passing Congress. Have never seen this language from a prior White House.

Literally have been telling this dude this for a very long time. Keep up, Chuck. Also: WTF are you going to do about it?
An unelected shadow government is conducting a hostile takeover of the federal government.

DOGE is not a real government agency.
DOGE has no authority to make spending decisions.
DOGE has no authority to shut programs down or to ignore federal law.
DOGE’s conduct cannot be allowed to stand.

As Donald Trump allows Musk to access people’s personal information and shut down government funding, Republicans in Washington will also own the consequences.

We must do everything in our power to push back and protect people from harm.
