GeNoWriCha Day 10 word count: 19,013 out of 50,000 “Are we safe?” she asked. “Not until we get past the bay,” he admitted. “But we’re out of that specific danger zone, yeah.” Erin nodded, bringing the seat back into its upright position. “How much longer until we’re…” She trailed off, knowing what the answer to that question would actually be. “We’re safe?” Jack finished the question for her. “Yeah.” Jack’s jaw worked, like he was trying to come up with a pretty lie to tell her. “Honestly, sunshine, I don’t know if we ever will be.” Erin let out a tiny, bitter breath of a laugh. “That’s what I thought you’d say.” “It’ll be better,” he told her, voice firm and reassuring. Then, again, like he was trying to reassure himself instead. “It’ll be better.”

Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.

Day 6 of Generic November Writing Month 2025 Current Word Count: 13,611 out of 50,000 “You’re not sleeping on the damn floor!” she shouted, forgetting where they were. She clamped her mouth shut, waiting for complaints or disgruntled pounding against the walls. When nothing came, she inhaled deeply and spoke again. “I’m not about to take a whole ass king bed to myself while you sleep on the dirty hotel floor.” J-097 opened his mouth to argue. “Don’t fight me on that, soldier. There are seven floors in this damn building there’s no way they deep clean every room after use.” J-097 closed his mouth. “Get in bed,” Erin ordered gently. “Please.” J-097 exhaled loudly through his nose, rubbing at his face. “Yeah,” he said, barely more than a whisper. “Yeah, alright.” Erin slipped under the covers as J-097 picked himself and his pillow up from the floor. She’d been correct. There was plenty of space for the two of them. The space between them felt cavernous, especially compared to the car. Erin hadn’t realized how used she’d gotten to feeling his body heat along her arm until there was space between them. She almost – almost – wanted to ask him to come closer, to share his warmth with her. She bit that feeling back, swallowing it down. It left her stomach churning. “Good night,” she murmured as he reached up to turn off the light. He paused, his hazel eyes meeting hers. She watched his throat bob. “Good night.”

The pain didn’t stop, but it did fade, at least until he pressed the gauze against the open wound. She whimpered into the washcloth again. “You did good, sunshine,” he told her. “You did so good. Didn’t scream once.” “Are you…” She swallowed thickly. “Are you sure I won’t need a suture or anything?” “Shouldn’t,” he said, lifting the gauze to check the incision. “I got some butterfly bandages. Should work well enough.” He busied himself with dressing her wound, and Erin made herself busy with watching him. His fingers were rough with work and hardship, but gentle. So much about him was surprisingly gentle, soft almost. “Were you a medic unit?” she asked quietly. “Is that what the J series were?” He seemed to hesitate then, hand lingering as he made a loop of gauze around her palm. “No. No, J series units were regular infantrymen.” “Oh.” She felt a little silly for asking. “You’re very good at it.”
