Wow — New YouGov / Economist poll:

46% support abolishing ICE
43% oppose abolishing ICE

This is the first time that abolishing ICE has received net positive support

So when authorities say “she tried to run over an officer,” that is not a neutral description. It is a claim of intent that can be used to justify lethal force after the fact.

When the state kills first and invents the threat afterward, it is not policing, it is death squad behavior. /end

Look, everyone. This is the freedom we want to export to Venezuela.
What in the Gestapo is going on in Grand Rapids?

Watch this activist get arrested *mid-interview* for speaking out against U.S. action in Venezuela.

@soniasulaiman.bsky.social - what are you interested in, in particular? Any specific religious traditions? My own work is mostly in Christianity, Judaism, and antiquity, but I'd be happy to offer what help I can!

I’m sorry, but it is disgraceful to be an academic who uses this technology to conduct research. It should be prohibited in all of our scholarly institutions, including universities and journals.

It's getting closer to Christmas, so I guess it's time to repost my article on the Panthera legend. I have a book under contract that expands on the topic due out next year. In short: there is no way this particular soldier was the biological father of Jesus: www.academia.edu/42958793/Jes...
Jesus 'ben Pantera': An Epigraphic and Military-Historical Note
There is ample evidence that anti-Christian polemicists asserted that Jesus' true father was neither God nor Joseph, but a Roman soldier named Pantera. This was long dismissed as ahistorical, but ...

Okay the only thing I’ll say about the Compact article is field specific: the trope of “traditional” military history vs. “woke” critical theory needs to die.

How could we even write about the Roman military w/o addressing colonization, empire, masculinity, trauma, ethnicity?
This is 100% incorrect as the explanation for why someone obsessed with Roman *military* history is not being hired.

How do people not see that the entire OU essay thing is just an attempt by this girl and the Turning Point chapter to turn her into another Riley Gaines grifting on trying to push trans people out of society?
Here's what this is actually about, dumbass

This sort of belief, that Christianity is the most moral religion in human history and that it acted as a moralizing agent that "civilized savages" is sadly still a somewhat common belief among older members of even liberally minded churches like the Episcopal Church. I've heard people say this.
VP JD Vance stood before a crowd and tried to falsify history, claiming Christians ended widespread mass child-sacrifice practices among Native Americans
