This is amazing news for anyone who rents in #Guelph. This bylaw will keep people in their homes by preventing bad-faith renovictions which are loopholes around rent control. @caton.bsky.social @gwlc.bsky.social @getinvolvedguelph.bsky.social @taypace.bsky.social #housing #rentcontrol #onpoli
Council votes to speed up renoviction bylaw for Guelph
'It's not acceptable to wait for another year or two years to get this implemented when it's affecting people right now,' said Coun. Erin Caton

Thanks to @guelph.ca council for supporting my amendment to immediately begin development of renoviction and rental replacement bylaws. With the vacancy tax bylaw & affordable housing plan, this was a great night with hopeful changes on the horizon.
Amendment to clause #2 approved.

Caton says its a numbers game; the City is proposing to build 12 units for $3.4 million (in next item) and this save affordable units for a simple $311k. They feel that we can get at a bylaw pretty quickly and with rapidly rising rents in Guelph, we need this now.

“The new Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency (OPCA) will aim to improve the province’s conservation authority system" to help get shovels in the ground faster on homes and other local infrastructure projects” - Guelph Today

Ah yes, building homes. Famously, the mandate of Conservation.
The province is creating the Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency (OPCA) to "provide centralized leadership, efficient governance, strategic direction and oversight of all conservation authorities." Some conservation authorities will be consolidated, but the province insists no jobs will be lost.

Doug Ford up with new way to increase homelessness and more intruding on municipal decisions. Never have I ever seen a government more intent on driving up property taxes in communities that are trying to keep people off the street. www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/arti... #ONpoli
Ontario bill would look at ‘alternative options’ for ending residential leases, scrap Toronto green roof bylaw. Here are the highlights
The Ford government has tabled an omnibus bill that would make changes to a whole suite of laws and regulations, from green roofs to tenant evictions and driver’s licences.

I was in hospital for three days and now am receiving outpatient care. I have had the opportunity to chat up loads of patients and professionals about the state of healthcare funding. The consensus is our province needs to get its priorities straight. We need accountability.

Canada Post offices are still in inaccessible locations that use perfumed products and sell perfumes. Decreasing accessibility and cutting jobs is not how we build a strong country.
Seems like a good time to remind people that Canada Post will deliver any piece of mail to federal elected officials for FREE.

No stamp necessary!

Just a reminder in case you, oh I dunno, wanna send your elected officials a sternly worded letter a day for a year or something.

Had an amazing tour of Creative Pottery from Brenda. It’s great to have a pottery studio that offers classes for all ages, is accessible and has pottery you can paint (mostly sourced in Canada), in Ward 1. Check them out at 259 Grange Rd. tucked behind Smitten.
