There’s more reasons than just trade protections to keep out a lot of US dairy, and it protects more than just dairy farmers. Especially with the US attack on science and safety regulations going on. cdr.wisc.edu/dairy-recall...

Starting Jan 1, you can recycle more! ✅Packaging (paper, glass, metal, plastic), plastic bags & wrappers, foam trays, coffee cups & pods, cosmetic tubes, blister packs, takeout containers & more. If it’s packaging, recycle it!

I’m so glad the decision to fund winter maintenance was reversed. Big win for accessibility, and affordability for those who need to ride in winter, as well as many unintended infrastructure headaches for the city at large.

We’re getting housing built, #Guelph!

Today, Minister Rob Flack announced the City hit 85% of our 2024 housing start goal — and will receive $3.69M through the #BuildingFasterFund. Thanks to Minister Flack for visiting Guelph and bringing us this exciting news.

Get to downtown @guelph.ca for the last day of Spirit of the Season and check out the punk rock market at the Guelph farmers market too. Loads of local artists and vendors to support with your holiday shopping.

Keep in mind that testing coverage for Ontario is currently limited due to the province cutting wastewater monitoring in most locations. Flu is also very high right now. If you haven’t had your fall vaccinations and are medically able, they are still available.

Passing action for the renoviction and rental replacement bylaws, the vacancy tax bylaw and the build of 12 new affordable housing units is a great end of month council meeting.

Magical skies for the ribbon cutting of the new pedestrian bridge (name coming soon) that connects Emma and Earl streets. Glad this is in place before we close the Speedvale bridge for repairs so folks without cars can maintain access. Great job from @guelph.ca staff on this project.

We need to take a stand against the use of the notwithstanding clause which allows Premiers to push through anti-human rights legislation that equates to anti-trans violence.
1/ This Trans Day of Remembrance we honour the memory and lives taken due to anti-trans violence. Dangerous anti-2SLGBTQI hate and rhetoric continue to take hold in modern-day society.

Thanks to @guelph.ca council for supporting my amendment to immediately begin development of renoviction and rental replacement bylaws. With the vacancy tax bylaw & affordable housing plan, this was a great night with hopeful changes on the horizon.

Caton says its a numbers game; the City is proposing to build 12 units for $3.4 million (in next item) and this save affordable units for a simple $311k. They feel that we can get at a bylaw pretty quickly and with rapidly rising rents in Guelph, we need this now.

“The new Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency (OPCA) will aim to improve the province’s conservation authority system" to help get shovels in the ground faster on homes and other local infrastructure projects” - Guelph Today

Ah yes, building homes. Famously, the mandate of Conservation.
The province is creating the Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency (OPCA) to "provide centralized leadership, efficient governance, strategic direction and oversight of all conservation authorities." Some conservation authorities will be consolidated, but the province insists no jobs will be lost.

Doug Ford up with new way to increase homelessness and more intruding on municipal decisions. Never have I ever seen a government more intent on driving up property taxes in communities that are trying to keep people off the street. www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/arti... #ONpoli

Canada Post offices are still in inaccessible locations that use perfumed products and sell perfumes. Decreasing accessibility and cutting jobs is not how we build a strong country.
Seems like a good time to remind people that Canada Post will deliver any piece of mail to federal elected officials for FREE.

No stamp necessary!

Just a reminder in case you, oh I dunno, wanna send your elected officials a sternly worded letter a day for a year or something.
