Caton says its a numbers game; the City is proposing to build 12 units for $3.4 million (in next item) and this save affordable units for a simple $311k. They feel that we can get at a bylaw pretty quickly and with rapidly rising rents in Guelph, we need this now.

You know what a $10,000 fine to someone living in unsheltered homelessness does? Costs money in court, police, jail and municipal staff to process. It will never be paid. Paying for housing is cheaper and actually helps people get better. We’re being governed by clickbait.

We need a better report and consequences path than having to sue through the human rights commission. It should be handled like bylaw and be a provincially funded agency per municipality. @pattyhajdu.bsky.social
