The social media platforms were doing the GOP a favor by booting vile bigots off their services. Now that they have largely given up, the bigots are the party's problem.

Wonder if they regret making such a stink about "deplatforming."
Four years ago, far-right white male supremacist Nick Fuentes was deplatformed pretty much everywhere.

Now he's back with a vengeance—and the online right can't stop fighting over whether to condemn him or welcome him. My story: wapo.st/4nJbt4M
Far-right provocateur Nick Fuentes is triggering a MAGA civil war
Once barred from nearly every social media platform, Fuentes’s resurgence has driven a wedge through the conservative movement.

People say, no, Russia has to completely withdraw to its borders.
So they set it up to fail.

(And Russia still says it's Ukraine and Europe who want war).

It’s barely even a Ponzi scheme. There’s no guarantee that Amazon is actually making profit on this! $105bn in capex! Perhaps they’re building capacity to provide it to OpenAI in yet another money losing revenue stuffer that will end with nobody getting anything but an IOU
So am I wrong in concluding this is just another Ponzi scheme to make Bezos even richer? At what point does he just buy a yacht the size of a small island nation?

it's something that's not exactly current events or new reporting... but nevertheless relevant food for thought given the news we're in.

today's subway reading:

Nonviolent protests are twice as likely to succeed as armed conflicts – and those engaging a threshold of 3.5% of the population have never failed to bring about change.

How the constitutional order delivered Trump:

- Wins control of major party with plurality of vote in 16 primary
- Wins electoral college in 16
- Senate refuses to remove 2x
- Supreme Court intervenes to prevent prosecution
- Senate cripples Biden's BBB agenda
- No mechanism to replace Biden
How did the constitutional order deliver us Trump? His historical legacy is literally people who despised the US liberal democratic order and tried to break it: the Confederates, fascists, Nazis. His power extends from his supporters' willingness to flout the rules. This just makes very little sense
It’s very important that we hold two ideas at once: Trump has taken us outside the constitutional order, AND that the constitutional order delivered Trump.

The American political system is incredibly outdated, unrepresentative and undemocratic—it needs to be changed.
