One thing I want for my 2026 year…more analog and less digital.

I’m pulling the Nikon SLR out and USING IT.

Imagine if they just subsidized newspapers and magazines the way they’re subsidizing this slop
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

I'm not interested in "I told you so."

A lot of people voted Liberal because they were terrified of Poilievre and his gang. I get that.

But Carney's who we got, he's being a weak leader, pushing policies that are harming the vast majority of us and it's time to just admit he sucks and push back.

Carney was necessary but I had hoped he'd be stronger on climate.
You know who benefits from #Carney’s walking back of environmental regulations?

#Canada’s American-owned oil & gas sector. The profits flow south

We’re on the hook for the clean up, insurance, the destruction of our land & public health. We pay the price. We subsidize American profits

The small group of people pushing AI and fossil fuels do not care about or believe in humanity.
It's just warlord nihilism, tout court. Its unofficial motto is: "Everybody should die except me & the handful of people I deem worthy."

It's "Dr. Strangelove" come to life, with Elon supplying the Nazi salute, RFK Jr. supplying the "Purity of Essence" & Stephen Miller planning for the bunkers.

To the average person who catches a headline here and there, "ending feminist foreign policy" doesn't send a great message.

The AI pushers don’t want us to be able to opt out because they have a bubble to keep afloat. Getting everyone hooked is their only hope.
I don't know why we can't just opt out of AI responses to Google searches, MS Word offers of AI "help", and the like. NOT having this interference should be the default; people who want to have their thinking done for them should be made to opt in, as a final act of independent decision-making.
I’m sure I’m gonna get dragged for this, but I think AI is bad. AI has completely ruined Google search and it’s created a lot more slop that needs to be avoided on the Internet.

pretty straightforward
Reasons Trump wants war w/ Venezuela:

• To steal oil – pure financial greed
• To steal land
• To kill/to feed his sadism
• To emulate Putin's totalitarianism and his invasion of Ukraine
• To distract from and prevent full release of the Epstein files
• In an attempt to justify martial law in the US

Not that anyone around here is buying American shoes these days but this tidbit on Nike is worth keeping in mind
Phil Knight is almost single handedly funding the OR GOP, one of the more extreme state GOPs in the country. Keep that in mind next time you’re in the market for sportswear or sneakers. www.oregonlive.com/politics/202...
Nike co-founder Phil Knight makes record-setting donation to help elect Republicans
It is the single largest donation Knight has made to an Oregon candidate or political action committee.

Revelations about RW social media accounts being run from Russia correspond perfectly to data already revealed by the Panama, Paradise & Pandora Papers: Russian money streamed thru offshore accounts funds virtually all right-wing "populist" parties in EU & NAmerica. Same goal: undermine democracy.
This is one of the big accounts boosting Tommy Robinson, Farage and Reform and ‘English Patriots’.

It’s Russian.

Similarly to how the CAQ keeps spouting women’s rights and gender equality for the express purpose of undermining the fundamental rights of Muslim women who have freely made their own choices. On the surface it sounds right, but it’s the exact opposite.

the point of the ballroom obvs has nothing to do with aesthetics. it's to create an architectural structure to honor the patronage networks that currently dominate US politics. previous WH venues hosted maybe a couple of hundred people; this hosts nearly 1,000 rich donors.

Rarely mentioned: "potential payoffs of AI" for individual humans

Even more rarely mentioned: the current (not potential) staggering harms of AI adoption
"Whichever way you look at it, the potential payoffs of A.I. adoption are staggering — for the economy, for social sectors, and, of course, for investors. That could not be said for the majority of the big historical bubbles, such as the tulip mania of the early 17th century."

NYT is a lost cause. Please do not keep it alive with your subscriptions. The good journalists will find a better home somewhere else. The rest should not be in real journalism anyway. Let it kill itself and invest in new or different sources, like Guardian U.S. or Pro Publica or The New Republic.
