Why is the second Mario movie called the Mario Galaxy Movie. Shouldn't it be the Super Mario World Movie? Then the third one could be Galaxy. You can't deescalate so you can't do World now. What will the third one be called? Who is managing this franchise

I reviewed James Vanderbilt's Nuremberg for IGN, a solid if occasionally shaky WWII drama anchored by the always compelling Russell Crowe as Hitler's second-in-command Hermann Göring:

Even 40 years after its release, the sci-fi/horror/zombie movie about space vampires may still be the most bonkers big-budget film of all time.

Excellent article from @carlosalonzom.bsky.social on why we need to adjust our box office expectations (CBMs especially). If a film makes ENOUGH $ for itself (let alone greenlighting a sequel) then that's all that matters. Merchandise sales & streaming deals certainly help. bsky.app/profile/ign....

You know, Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps both failed to hit a billion dollars at the box office. And that's totally OK!

This article by @carlosalonzom.bsky.social is worth a read. Hoult's Lex is one of my CBM villains in recent memory primarily because he HATES Superman in all his petty glory. Sometimes a villain being truly evil (backed by a passionate performance) is all you need.

I've been hard on the AV Club, a once vital & essential culture site that turned into a rote clearing house for thinly written click bait, but this is an excellent deconstruction of the disastrous post-Endgame MCU. I was surprised until i saw @carolinesiede.bsky.social wrote it. She knows her shit.
To save the superhero movie, we need to bring back themes
In the post-Endgame landscape, superhero movies like Captain America: Brave New World have abandoned themes for synergy.

It really is time for the MCU to stop using military imagery (and military contributions in general) to prop up their superheroes. Sam's Cap should just be a civilian superhero at this point. My hope is that once the F4 and X-Men arrive that Marvel let's us root for underdogs for a change.
