Cory Booker just spoke for 25 hours straight about defending democracy. Here's why we’re not clapping.

— In 2019, he backed anti-BDS legislation
— In 2019, he told AIPAC: “If I forget thee, O Israel…”
— In 2021, he pushed normalization with Arab states—at Palestinians' expense

Booker doing what the Neoliberal corporate Democrats do best: theater in place of actual material pushback or change.
Bookers stunt tonight is nothing more than a photo op and achieves nothing beyond political theater.
Like other corporate Democrats he is unwilling to do anything beyond theater

Yesterday NIH revised the NOFO for the Parent F31 Fellowship to remove words like "diverse" and "gender", and to delete a statement encouraging predominantly BIPOC institutions to apply for funding

advocating for science right now also means protecting academics' right to free speech, demanding that our institutions keep ICE off our campuses, & talking as much about the PhD students and professors who have been abducted by plain clothes "officers" as we do about the corruption @ NIH

And study section is postponed a day before the meeting. After taking the time to review the applications. And a few of my applications were pulled earlier this week (after I reviewed them) because of diversity. It’s disheartening and awful.
Reviewing NIH student (F31) fellowships this week, and nothing serves to hit more about the impact of current draconian attacks, on our ability to train the next gen of scientists. The talent, perseverance, scientific curiosity, and entrepreneurship of the next generation are all at stake right now.

I am livid that my student who submitted a diversity F31 and received an outstanding score, near the top of the fundable range, was told to submit again.

Refusing to fund F31s from URMs while funding regular F31s from white/privileged students with worse scores is blatant discrimination.
