Next week the Senate could vote on the Boundary Waters copper mine bill, which would determine how ALL our public lands and waters are managed for the rest of our lives. This is serious.

Please take a minute to contact your Senators this weekend. Thanks!

No wonder the orange toddler is unhinged once again.

The Obamas are competent, classy, loving, Harvard and Princeton graduates, loved by many, not on the Epstein files, got the Nobel Peace Prize, and gave us a steady economy to boot.

Repost this if you agree they are AMAZING and an inspiration!

President Obama created that National Monument, so of course the Fanta Fuhrer would want to destroy it. So ignorant, much racist.

Friday night news dump: Trump just opened a marine national monument to commercial fishing.

Environmentalists worry that fishing in the area could damage sensitive ecosystems and habitats for endangered whales and other species. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/02/06/c...

I've been on that trail! And warned off of going too far along it due to mama bison! #ParkChat

Thank you so much, @beckyjlomax.bsky.social! I know that social media is sometimes a beast, and I'm glad you were here tonight for the chat!

I've been told I need to go to Hocking Hills SP, and I haven't found my way there yet. #ParkChat

A11 #ParkChat I think canyons are pretty neat, and I am captivated by the movement of water through some of them. I think my attention depends on the canyon though. 😜

A10 #ParkChat I like to see *everything* so I can't really answer this question. But on the topic of the Black Canyon, one of the easiest ways to get "in" it is at Curecanti NRA. This photo is from the Pine Creek Trail, which follows the narrow gauge railroad (then road) that used to be here.

Isn't the reason it's called the "Grand Canyon" because the Colorado River was originally called the "Grand River"? #ParkChat

A9 #ParkChat I'm interested in slot canyons, but I'm very nervous about them also. Aren't they also called arroyos?

A8 #ParkChat Tough question. Black Canyon was a shock to me. It's like a sudden wound in the land, a tear in the fabric of the Earth. It's so narrow that it's almost missable! That really shocked me.

Learning about cliff dwellings during that 2016 road trip with me mom wasn't just Walnut Canyon but also Gila Cliff. There was a LOT I learned about Pueblo/Anasazi people during that trip. #ParkChat

A7 #ParkChat I haven't been to Mesa Verde yet, but I'm guessing Walnut Canyon counts?

A6 #ParkChat TBH "Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park" is such a mouthful that I was a) intrigued and b) want to rename it. But as Kari already pointed out, it's really amazing and I do want to go back (to it and Curecanti).

I was saving my Black Canyon photos for maybe a later questions! But, yeah, Black Canyon of the Gunnison was a shockingly amazing site to me (alongside Curecanti) #ParkChat

A5 #ParkChat Being from small and demure Maryland (well, demure when it comes to canyons), I'm not one to judge. I've seen both "the" Grand Canyon and Yellowstone's version. They are both very impressive to me.
February 5, 2026 at 2:29 AM
A4 #ParkChat I've been to Jordan Pond in Acadia (yay #404Family roadtrips!), and maybe others that I'm not aware of. I guess I'm more fond of the obvious canyons!

(if you're wondering the history, do a search for "David Kersey" and "Great Falls" and it should be the top hit -- nothing like seeing a student (current at the time it happened) on the front page of the Washington Post (RIP, on two fronts) #ParkChat
