#ParkChat HOFer

#EndTheStigma

No creepy DMs. I'm married and not interested.
I have a ton of photos that I could use for #BlueSkyArtShow #small and most of them are tiny, tiny mushrooms, taken at state or national park sites, like these. #ParkChat

Since that program, I'm always looking for and at moths. They are just as amazing as their day-time butterfly siblings. #ParkChat

A9 #ParkChat I'm always looking at the little things, but something that is small and I wouldn't have seen otherwise had to be a moth program that was part of my #STEAMinthePark trip to New River Gorge in 2023. I never realized the immense diversity of moths. The first three are from New River.

And then there's Hudson-Meng and Toadstool Geologic! #ParkChat

A7 #ParkChat I picture a place that requires effort to get to, that doesn't necessarily have cell service. Off the beaten path, by a mile.

A6 #ParkChat Laying out on the dock with Rodney, @missmeyeritjhs.bsky.social and other #STEAMinthePark campers at Voyageurs, trying to see the northern lights, and Katherine counting satellites (hah hah hah)

A5 #ParkChat Physically, yeah, at those wide open expanses in the western public lands.

As a person in history? There are places that make me feel small when I'm surrounded by the crush of the historical importance. Antietam (Bloody Lane) and Gettysburg (Pickett's Charge/High Water Mark) are two.

And I was looking specifically for this one. The Bonneville Salt Flats. You can see the curve of the earth. #ParkChat

A4 #ParkChat Crackling firepit.

A barred owl.

Rustling leaves.

The "plop" of a fishing lure hitting the water.

A2 #ParkChat This is a tough call. Let's see what just searching "horizon" in my photos drive brings us.
November 20, 2025 at 2:15 AM
A1 #ParkChat For me, I think it's the views. Seeing something I know is a full-sized Jeep that looks like a toy, it's hard to wrap my head around how far away/down it is.

Post a bird to support @sbworkersunited.org and warn your followers not to buy Starbucks for the duration of the ULP strike. 🪶

A11 #ParkChat I don't think there are enough characters available for this without threading it. Still, any #STEAMinthePark trip, any #404family road trip, any trip with @patred.bsky.social, the trips with my mom.... they are all beautiful in their own ways.
November 13, 2025 at 2:58 AM
A10 #ParkChat I don't think of anything as "odd." I did do a horseback ride at Ft. Robinson State Park (Nebraska) that was really fun.
November 13, 2025 at 2:53 AM
A9 #ParkChat Well, my "go to" park (C&O Canal) is about transportation.

The park I posted about earlier (Steamtown NHS) is all railroad.

I've been to Allegheny Portage Railroad, which is both RR and canal!

Golden Spike.

Yeah, I've been to a few. 😆
November 13, 2025 at 2:50 AM
A2 #ParkChat The only time I've ridden a train in conjunction with a National Park visit is the #404Family trip to Steamtown NHS.
November 13, 2025 at 2:15 AM
A1 #ParkChat I have not flown in specifically for a park visit, but I've made a park visit part of such a trip. Case in point - 2016, I flew in Vegas because Pat was there for a Matco Tool Expo (and it was by birthday). I took the opportunity to go to Death Valley and Hoover Dam for the first time.

That bison knew that one of its brethren had destroyed a touron just the previous week in Yellowstone, and was like, "Come at me, bro." #ParkChat

A8 #ParkChat At Badlands, on "the" dirt road (which apparently scares a lot of tourists). I was in my old 2006 WRX (on summer high performance tires, so not really "dirt" tires) and I decided, "I haven't been down this way, so lets go." I met "Robert" of Robert's Prairie Dog Town, and a bison.

A7 #ParkChat I'm going to respectfully decline answering the campground question. It's too difficult to get good campsites these days.

Hiking? There are sections on the C&O Canal Towpath west of Sharpsburg that are just empty. From Hancock to the Round Top Cement Factory, I encountered no one.
November 6, 2025 at 2:40 AM
A6 #ParkChat TBH, it was my first trip to Badlands NP in 2012. That first overlook, I texted my friend Greg (who I knew had been there before), "Why did you never tell me?" He responded, "You needed to see it yourself."
November 6, 2025 at 2:33 AM
A5 #ParkChat I guess that depends what you are looking for. I'm sure someone will mention Custer SP. Ft. Robinson SP (and nearby Toadstool Geologic and Hudson-Meng) are an awesome alternative.
November 6, 2025 at 2:30 AM
A4 #ParkChat Yeah, usually because I ask rangers about "trails that are awesome but not overcrowded." That's how I got to Kephart Prong Trail in Great Smokies and Broken Arch Trail in Arches NP.
November 6, 2025 at 2:24 AM
A3 #ParkChat Well, I'd prefer not say so they don't get overwhelmed and overcrowded, but Badlands NP is amazing, as is Congaree NP. Now, Congaree is overwhelmed during firefly season, but otherwise..... 😵‍💫
November 6, 2025 at 2:18 AM
A2 #ParkChat Wow, a tough question to start. I think "underrated" depends on what the expectations were to start. I'm going with a #404Family favorite -- the Kosciusko House. I learned a LOT there that I wasn't expected.
