Not sure what places Stancil himself is thinking of but it’s kinda heartbreaking reading the replies and seeing people defend the American system by noting that similar outcomes have emerged in… El Salvador and Argentina. Like you’re the cultural/intellectual capital of the world and that’s the bar?
A good way to think about this is to look around the world and ask if there are other countries with different systems where corrupt populists have become popular as meme-like celebrity demagogues, or if America's polarized two-party system is the only one currently producing those kinds of figures
You of all people should know that public opinion is endogenous: he became popular with half the country *because* he became the candidate in a polarized two party system, and a polarized two party system is in large part downstream of constitutional design

I don’t think it can be emphasized enough that large language models were never intended to do math or know facts; literally all they do is attempt to sound like the text they’re given, which may or may not include math or facts. They don’t do logic or fact checking — they’re just not built for that

In retrospect, I give Meta a lot of credit over Threads. They saw how Twitter and Reddit were destroying themselves and, instead of just doing that to FB or Instagram, responsibly made an entire new social media platform they could destroy instead.

Pretty much every time I've seen the term 'anglosphere' used in conversation it's been by people from a non-English-speaking background to concisely refer to the English-speaking world. I'm very surprised to see the discourse on here about how it's apparently inherently 'racist' or 'right-wing'.
