Yeah I really dislike the genre of post which is like "trump has done something very bad, therefore we live under a totalitarian regime" like the very fact that you're posting that without fear of consequences is proof that we are not (yet). Engage with the harms as they actually exist
It’s an anocracy. Trump hasn’t consolidated authoritarian control. If he did, he’d be able to carry out his desire to crush all mass protest with overwhelming force. There wouldn’t be No Kings protests all over the county, with little difficulty.

Augmenting HSI and ICE with National Guard and US Marines is a budgetary move. If I’m right, they get to bill the state for guard usage, and the Marines are a different budget altogether, right? CA lawsuit will likely bolster non-payment for any guard usage for these kidnappings.

Yeah, that’s the problem and one that I think is really scary for a lot of people because they’ve never had to actually think about doing the work that’s going to be required and don’t even even know what it looks like. So I think some of this is on us to tell people what it looks like.

The success of defending democracy needs more amplification, that it does work, and its being done every day, and succeeding. Of course they want to cripple it. Thank you for sharing that.
For context: I work at a 501c3 nonprofit. We sued the Trump admin to block his rollbacks of environmental rules on average once per week from 2017-2020. We won 90% of those cases. This is why they want to stop us
