Jorie Graham reflects on Elizabeth Bishop’s “At the Fishhouses,” a poem that showed “how a solitary soul might descend into the heart of life, of matter, and achieve solace and spiritual insight, however momentary.” #NewYorker100

In all seriousness though. I wasn’t sure if I actually liked the pictures of the park or if I was just indulging my oppositional crank nature. But having strolled through the park yesterday, I can confirm, it’s really nice. A solid improvement on what was there previously, for sure.
People talking about the Peace Park in Cork like it were the most joyous idyll. It was a kip. Absolute sh*thole. Now it’s just a more concrete sh*thole.

Every town needs an Evening Echo. It’s like having a particularly hilarious friend who enjoys spinning yarns in the pub, but in newspaper format.

New: Major UK retailers are selling tuna from fisheries where crews say they endure beatings, gruelling hours and inadequate food. Some spend years at sea without visiting port.

In case you writers out there have ever felt imposter syndrome, "From his mouth the bullet theoretical launched the bullet possible" is an actual sentence in whatever this is.
Vanity Fair's West Coast Editor Olivia Nuzzi was a star political correspondent until scandal led her into exile—and to a California up in flames.

In an excerpt from her book, ‘American Canto,’ she takes stock of scorched earth.

What!? The guy responsible for the Luka trade has been sacked by Dallas??

Shocked! Absolutely shocked. Truly. Could not see this coming. The guy is clearly a sports executive genius. A strategist, par excellence, if you will.
