He was sick for so long but he wasn't old and he was a stubborn fighter. Another piece of my chosen family passing to the ether, and I'm torn between grief and relief he's out of pain. It's a duller, confusing ache

I can generally tell the difference between a joke scold and the ones who actually mean it, but when in doubt I err on the side of "you mean it." Remember always also that "the failure mode of 'clever' is 'asshole.'"
Am I allowed to make one joke scold or would I be on thin ice?

My library's book club title this month was "Annie Bot" by Sierra Greer. Very good in a Seriously Disturbing way. Rewatching Voyager S6E11, I was struck by unlikely parallels of Janeway & Doug...& grateful for those Trekkie moral compasses, whew #BookSky #TrekSky #AIethics

If a reader dislikes your politics, then no amount of subtlety will prevent them from accusing your story of not being subtle enough. Not even if the politics of the story are about your right to live. Don’t go quieter to appease the callow.
if u see this, quote-post with your tips for writers that no one gives anymore because they seem obvious (even though they're not)

If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.
