Every year when the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree gets lit up I wonder why they have such a grotty set of lights for it. Westminster Council could surely afford something better - after all they get the tree itself as a gift.

And of course plenty of libraries ostensibly still operating under local authority control have also passed many functions previously undertaken by paid staff to volunteers. Or indeed to simply withdraw from what were considered core facets of the service.

Sheringham, a seaside town in Norfolk England. The council tried to demolish an art deco bus shelter AT 2AM! Someone ratted on them. Protestors turned up to protect the bus shelter. The police were called by the council but they refused to take sides.

The US has fought wars for bad reasons, but this would be the first time we fought a war for no reason.
