What if everyone committed to canceling one streaming service and redirected those resources (in the form of a monthly donation/subscription) to an independent media outlet?

This would help shore up independent media at a critical time and have the added benefit of reducing corporate power.
Meskel and Bebe have been an important part of the neighborhood for decades. If you're in Seattle (and especially if you're in the CD) and have something to spare, please donate. If you don't have anything to spare, please share.

As @adriennemareebrown.bsky.social says, "When you are overwhelmed by the big picture, make the picture you are looking at smaller. In what ways can I be a neighbor today?"

In case you haven't already, please listen to @translash.org's excellent series, The Anti Trans Hate Machine. It explains a lot about this moment.

This is the most compelling book I've read in 2025.
The Land Knows the Way: Eco-Social Insights for Liberation is a collection of political medicines – gathered and gleaned from six decades of trickster art and activism, the long history of peoples’ movements, and the deep rhythms of our planet’s ecology.

Wally's Soul Food is now open at 23rd & Jackson (in the old Catfish Corner space). Do yourself a favor and go. Everything we had was delicious. (*Please* try the banana pudding pound cake!)

Also note that Wally's fed folks at @lavrights.org's "Louder than Hate" event last month. 💜💜💜

I saw that an acquaintance on FedBook has personally gotten over 55 people to cancel their Disney subscriptions. This is a homebound person and she found her lane and is absolutely kicking ass at the moment. People are doing things.

For those canceling Disney+, Hulu, etc.: consider redirecting those $$$ to indie media outlets.

I want to push back against the sentiment that we live in terrible political times and we must exist as if we don't. Let me hold your hand gently when I say this:

You don't have to keep it moving like the world isn't burning. You can meet the moment *and* do daily life. Let's talk about how. 🧵

Spent my evening at @lavrights.org's "Louder than Hate" event at Washington Hall. (It's still going btw.)

Sean who?

We built a calculator that doesn't work, but don't worry, it's also a plagiarism machine that will tell you to kill yourself. It runs on the world's oceans and costs 10 trillion dollars.

Back from a (much needed) transit adventure to Port Townsend with my crew. We took the 3 downtown, then the Kitsap Fast Ferry to Kingston, then Jefferson Transit 14 to Haines Place TC, then JT 11 to town.

Brief, beautiful bright spot in rough year. Thanks for the tip, @typewriteralley.bsky.social

Reward for the long adventure (which included a 45+ minute wait for the first 594🙄): nibling and puppy snuggles, beautiful views of The Mountain, and some much-needed QT with my teens. ❤️

Soon, the only jobs available will be in "law enforcement" (including policing, private security, immigration, and all forms of detention). People will either starve or control those who are starving.

April action: What if everyone cancels one streaming service and repurposes the money for a subscription/monthly donation to an independent media outlet?

Was late for the @seattletru.bsky.social #handsoff action that started at Angle Lake, so I went to the big one at Seattle Center. There were THOUSANDS of people there.

More than 40K in the US die in fatal car crashes each year. Every minute about five people are injured by/in cars. ~1M cars are stolen per year. Tens of thousands of carjacking attempted/completed each year. Pollution from cars causes cancer and other diseases. But to go on about transit’s dangers.

It's fascinating to me what people perceive as "safe" versus "unsafe." I won't argue that there are no issues with transit because I live them, but there is SO MUCH DATA about the dangers of cars that people either ignore or view as acceptable daily risk. This is about making us afraid of each other
Statistics:
• America’s road traffic safety record is a disaster.

The US Secretary of Transportation:
• Keeping driving everybody. Rail transit is the safety disaster.

Bus drivers are easily my favorite category of human, and there are few I actively dislike, with one exception. My least favorite driver ever is someone who's been driving the 48 for decades. He's so mean, he even drives mean. I can always tell it's him by the aggressive way he pulls up at the stop.
