Echo: The Oracle's Scroll is a metroidvania for the Playdate!

I've never had the words for this sentiment before but I agree with it tremendously
technology that makes people more productive is inherently used to perpetuate capitalism, that’s why I make videogames, technology that makes people less productive

Gonna start yelling about this game a lot in the new year!

If you know of anyone who likes roguelike deckbuilders, it could be cool to let them know a good one with double sided cards (coins!) is on the horizon ☠️

Also happy chrimus day to those celebrating 🎄 merry Thursday to those that aren't 💛

What if the Ferryman made a roguelike?

Wunder is a double-sided deckbuilder where your cards are coins, flipping heads or tails will completely change what they do!

Last year I watched every Die Hard over the 3 days of Christmas, I would have done it back to back but family members kept telling me it wouldn't be very fun (disagree)

I feel equipped to say...

Just stop after 3, it's really not worth Timothy Olyphant to continue, and I love that guy!

My playdate Diablo-like will likely follow this structure, it's so much easier to build characters you care about when there is only 1 hub.

I spend a non-zero part of every day being consciously grateful for the existence of the playdate

Literally nothing else like it out there!
the very kind folks at stripe — our good (corporate) friends who power the financial parts of playdate and playdate catalog — stopped by our office and made a nice little playdate video for us.

thank you stripe! onward to 2026!

Genuinely so goddamn inspiring, I can't wait to do some mat caps for my psx style game
It seems people want to ponder orbs—I mean learn about Matcaps! They're great for gesturing at complex lighting and reflections within a stylized art style. And as a bonus, no UV unwrapping! ^.^

tbh I really wanted to release a game every year now I'm indie, at least for the first few years. Hoping I can start that trend next year with Wunder, then get Comet Coast out in 27

I'd say my games of the year (in no order) so far are;

Silksong (probs my GOTY) shorturl.at/oJlQd
Nubby's Number Factory shorturl.at/343rN
Sol Cesto shorturl.at/ImrlF
Oblivion Remastered shorturl.at/w2jNk
Angeline Era shorturl.at/PZ3hF

I also loved playing Diablo & Balatro this year!

This is a really good thought piece on making an OoT style game, something I'm absolutely gunning for eventually with Echo.

Hyrule in that game is such a fantastic place to explore.
Whether the designers lucked into it or not, they made a playable fairy tale that has since gone unrivalled for me.

I wanna post more fun things rather than just negativity about how much AI sucks 😅

today I added a little icon to the action bar that acts as a tooltip for your current deck ability!

I'm becoming such an opinion poster when I wanna be a game dev / art poster :/

I need to sort my shit out

side note: how does one learn HOW to tell a great story?

rich folk are way too addicted to the "I know kung fu cause of the floppy disk" of it all to know how anything good gets made
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

I think I've made up my mind, I'll buy e33 after the bubble bursts and if the next game they make defo has no AI in the pre-production process or final game

That feels like a serviceable way to live until it's all over 😂

Sorry I think using AI for placeholders is also bad
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know you only care about finished art but placeholder art also needs to be made by a human being who also needs to be paid for that

But placeholder midjourney slop cuts that artist out
December 12, 2025 at 10:57 PM
I've been umming and ahhing about buying e33 for a few weeks now, I'm making a tiny jrpg as a little side project and would love to see what they did

plus based on everyone's reaction to it and everything I've seen, it is "a good game", objectively

except...

So, “Order of the Sinking Star” by Thekla was just announced, which takes several small free games (two of which are mine) and gives them a major graphical upgrade and mashes up their rulesets. I haven’t been very involved but it’s a great concept and looks cool.

EGX went really well! Wunder got about 30 wishlists, loads of people got to the end of the demo and kept playing!

A few people told me it's the kind of game they'd play for hundreds of hours and they wished it was already out 😭

I think the game is gonna do okay!

Ahhh we have a game at EGX Rezzed!! V excited to see what people think!

Also our stand is right by the Korean corn dogs van, this is gonna a great weekend 😁

Wunder is gonna be playable at EGX Rezzed in Birmingham this weekend, in the Game Republic Zone! If you're going come and check it out!

There's no trailer yet but we did get a Steam page up. If a coin based, double-sided deckbuilder sounds interesting to you, wishlisting could be cool!
