Drinks for the England side during the 5th and final Test at The Oval in August 1926. No water carrier in a high-vis jacket sprinting on every five minutes, not even a blazered 12th man, but a waiter in full black tie. Standards

Love this story!

The podcast where @escalante.bsky.social and @thesoulfulwit.bsky.social talk through this game is one of my go-to's when I need cheering up; along with the CFL USA episode, and the Commish's Corner on the 2008 Sun Bowl

If you've seen the Frasier episode where les frères Crane endorse Phil Paterson, this makes sense.

12 of 18 teams within six points of a promotion spot, no one averaging even 2.0 PPG. Greatest league in the world.

🧵 Thoughts after round 1 of the CFP:
- I'm not sure the format works. 3 cold-weather home games gave Penn St, Ohio St, and a lesser extent ND such a strong advantage.
- Blowouts do not help the brand; at halftime of Penn St v SMU, a large % of viewers would have shifted to NFL, others to FCS 1/3

This was published 7 hours ago, and STILL no one has corrected the fixtures at the end. It's Iceland 🇮🇸, and not Israel, who are playing Finland 🇫🇮, Switzerland 🇨🇭 & Norway 🇳🇴.

Very sloppy and unbelievably poor form from the British state broadcaster, yet so unsurprising!

A brilliant analysis of a rare, and beautiful, moment in American Football history! 🏈
Last night, my football dreams came true. A play I’ve yelling about online for about a decade happened in an actual NFL game—the first fair catch kick since 1978.

Here’s everything there is to know about this impossibly rare play, the NFL’s vestigial tailbone: open.substack.com/pub/rodgersh...
