An important thread on the proposed Medicaid cuts from Congress. $700 million in cuts tossing 8 million people off insurance.

#ProtectMedicaid
Energy & Commerce text is out. Will go through it in this thread.

tl;dr: this'd be the largest Medicaid cuts in history, kicking millions off their health insurance, leading to tens of thousands of additional deaths each year

LOTS of bad stuff in this (but the very worst policy did not make it in)

It is #NationalAccessibilityBarriersDay. Here's to celebrating Public Partnerships, LLC (PPL) and their ability to make #CDPAP, a program by and for disabled folks, a beacon of inaccessibility throughout NY.

"The President has no mandate to cut Medicaid." @algreen.house.gov speaks truth.

#Medicaid provides life saving services for millions of people. It is a critical resource lifting up our health care system. We must #ProtectMedicaid & not let the President's incivility beat our civility.

So-called "waste, fraud, & abuse" is also @govkathyhochul.bsky.social's excuse for selling out Medicaid program CDPAP to a private corporation (when CDPAP has VERY low incidence of fraud).

Hochul should be defending home care & Medicaid, but she's working hand-in-hand w Republicans to destroy it.

#NYSenatirGustavoRivera on CDPAP - how many workers are there?

@nysdoh.bsky.social Medicaid Director says "we don't know but we think between 200-300k" Senator notes 280k consumers, likely at least 1 per.
February 11, 2025 at 7:45 PM
@nysdoh.bsky.social Commissioner just admitted the transition in #CDPAP might not happen timely. Only 22k have "completed" transition. That is 1 in 14.

Still says there is no Plan B. Puts onus on managed care plans to pay workers if the transition doesn't happen. Directly? How?

@govkathyhochul.bsky.social says she's giving PPL #CDPAP to "protect home care users & caregivers." But CDPAP's built on Dignity of Risk, ending ableist tropes that PWD need protection from able-bodied. Consumers see her "protection" more like that from the mob - take it or else.
