AI summaries in search is a terrible idea, and let me tell you why. Say you want to know whether you should feed your dog raw food. You know there's a spirited debate about this, so you search "Are there benefits to raw pet food?" 🧵

The rate at which I become aware of someone I didn't know before and become irreversibly convinced they should go eat shit is now pretty much daily.
KARL: Watch this video of a woman who says she's disabled getting dealt with by ICE. What do you think?

McCAUL: Well, the optics aren't good

K: They smashed her windows & threw her to the ground

M: It appears to be a little overzealous, but what about the actions of murderers & drug traffickers?

I’m an atheist. I don’t think in terms of good vs. evil. What is happening in the US, though, is making me believe in Satan. Not, like, The Satanic Temple, which are good people. But like the real deal fucking devil.

Completely done with buying gas. It's evil, it's colonialist, it's stupid, it's deadly, I'm done. Getting an electric car asap or fucking walking.

Fuck every single stupid loser who joins ICE.

BBC saying the intervention in Venezuela is without precedent is total ahistorical nonsense. We can recognize Trump as uniquely horrible and illiberal without resorting to utterly erasing American imperial history.

I won't mince words. The Trump administration kidnapped legal asylum seekers and then paid a psychopathic government in El Salvador to torture or kill them because the Trump gov't enjoys hurting people, they genuinely get off on it, and they're anti-life, misanthropic sickos.

Look at this competency.
The FBI put a thousand agents (their own words) on trying to hide all the links between Trump and Epstein. They failed. When people found some additional photos of Trump in the release, the DOJ promptly DELETED THEM FROM THE DOCUMENT RELEASE.

Available to download Friday, some Epstein files no longer there Saturday afternoon
An NPR analysis of the Epstein files shows some documents, originally available on Friday, are no longer on the Department of Justice's "Epstein Library" website as the DOJ releases more files.

Yes, it should have been. But the world hates #DisabledPeople too much. So of course it was gonna slide.
It’s also why society at large couldn’t see that the ramping up of #Ableism was a sign that Fascism was coming.
If only the warnings of Disabled people had been heard.

If ya’ll had my Instagram algorithm right now you’d be convinced that like, every human on earth is missing both legs, or has a little arm, or is deaf, or uses an ACC device

Britt Young, writer and lecturer at UC Berkeley, explains why 3D printing has not brought down costs of prosthetic limbs.

I just met a grad student who spent a gap year in Alaska learning dog mushing and he had never heard of Balto (movie or the dog). That's wild, right? Or am I just a huge Baltohead?

I have a one armed friend who always refers to his "two-handed children," and it's the best gag. "I have to go pick up my two-handed children." Oh the poor things!

Really looking forward to recreating the literacy rates of 13th century Italy. I will be the new Dante.
To bear out this rosy projection, HSBC assumes that OpenAI will become "as ubiquitous [...] as Microsoft 365" (345mm users worldwide) while bringing in 10x the number of users (3bn).

this defies parody. also helps explain why Sec Bessent bizarrely blamed immigrants when confronted with a question about high beef prices

Yesterday, The Tyee looked at how the industry is struggling to meet demands for wheelchair maintenance and repairs — a situation that can trap people at home or even in bed while they wait.

In part two today, we look at solutions. @michellegamage.bsky.social reports. 🦽 #bcpoli

I wrote a check today, so I guess I can at least make a semi-formal announcement here: EBB is going to be a sponsor of @oaklandreviewofbooks.org. What that means for them & for us, who’s to say! But it should be interesting figuring out.
