remember that the default mode of language policing in schools is not in explicit verbal corrections but in policies, curricula, and entire systems designed to maintain imagined linguistic standards and eradicate linguistic diversity

Knowing someone paid 10k for you in the 80s doesn’t make you feel loved. It makes you feel exploited.
I guess my question for this baby broker, quoted in 1980 (so adjust that $10,000 for inflation) is: How was it allowed to come to the point where my family identity and relationships would be determined by which party was richer? 🥚

Writing studies folks, does anyone has composition, PTW, or TESOL scholarship they like that addresses late work / flexible due dates? I'm working on finding a balance between accountability, consistency, equity, and empathy.

Same for languages and literature, which includes every section of First Year Writing. We cost next to nothing in salary and overhead and ring up huge numbers of student credit hours.

We're the true economic driver of the university, and it's like that pretty much everywhere.
We faculty heard some pretty astounding numbers yesterday. The big whopper is that our unit (all the historians and social scientists) costs the university about $1.4m a year. Because we teach so much (all those "student credit hours" we account for), we bring into the university more than 3x that.
