(3) But the Democrat view is also bad: while it's fine for people at Princeton and Harvard to study Latin and Sanskrit, public higher education is about job training and $ ROI. There is no room for the idea that curiosity-driven inquiry is a good that should be supported by the public.

🚨 NEW EPISODE ALERT 🚨

let's dive inside the mind of a wolf, explore the possibility that spoken communication is kind of a trick, and ask: what's the source of the overwhelming evil we feel as a component of the truck we're driving?

oh and also — the most unhinged piece of audio we've ever put out

Got pulled into Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose sort of on accident (I liked the movie) but the novel is a real gem. A medieval murder mystery, gory and fun and often moving.

This is true, and something we genuinely don't talk about much in Oklahoma is how much Gov. Stitt has changed in these last couple of years.

Hell yeah. Sciascia was a real one. He wrote these cool, eerie, existential detective stories, took on the mafia, and got elected to the Italian and European parliaments as a radical. A major dude. The @nyrb-imprints.bsky.social puts out a few of his books. I'd start with The Day of the Owl.
Our Author of the Month for February is the Italian novelist, essayist and politician Leonardo Sciascia. A new biography of Sciascia by Caroline Moorehead, is published this month by Chatto.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.
