Fetterman, you're done. We the people of PA didn't elect you to be the turncoat that you proved yourself to be today.

And, let's point out that John Fetterman said it's 'entirely possible' ACA subsidies won't be extended and, yet, he still voted to just move on. What a fucking asshole.

I have to hand it to them, it's an incredible bit to publicly lose a game of chicken, admit that's what happened, and then spend the next day lecturing everyone about courage and tenacity

Goodnight 🌙

Fuck Schumer again

I wouldn’t want to be a Republican right now. I’m way pissed at the Dems who buckled, but the insurance premiums is on the GOP. Dems can at least say “we tried to stop it.” Also: new CR in 01/26, so we get a rerun w/a MUCH angrier electorate whose Xmas was prob stingier than they’d expected.

I’ve said this b4, but here’s a little inside baseball from a former Republican: Back in my GOP days, we Republicans would privately laugh at how Democrats would never go to the mat to win. We always knew Democrats wouldn’t fight to the death politically.

Last night proved Republicans right again.

For those of you who weren’t around during the GWB era, what @ronfilipkowski.bsky.social describes is EXACTLY what the Dems did back then on so much bad stuff. We’ve seen this before, @kaine.senate.gov @schumer.senate.gov @durbin.senate.gov

Please don’t think this beltway game of having retiring Dem senators vote yes while everyone else votes no is going to shield leadership from the end result. We see what is happening and can’t be fooled by those games.

Listen to this mustachioed twit get all defensive and try to muddy the waters. I’m sure my crap senator is out making the rounds too. @timklateriser.bsky.social @jcm800.bsky.social @jsrouthier.bsky.social
My God, what a horrible, pitiful, defeatist, tone deaf, and just plain…WRONG thing to say. Retire now @SenAngusKing if that’s how you feel. Retire now and put someone else in your place who will stand up to the fascist in the White House.

Oh, and as if the bill wasn’t bad enough,

the GOP slipped a nationwide abortion ban on the CR.

So is that gonna go through as well?

A vote that will fail, if there’s even a vote to begin with.
An agreement to agree to do a later vote is NOT an enforceable contract so what in the actual hell are Americans getting out of this deal??

I think a lot of the anger this morning stems from a feeling that we did our part, but they did not do theirs. This is an oversimplification, but my dudes, no wonder people are like, “OK, let’s try the democratic socialist, then.”

Here's a package of stories I put together in *2010* on abolishing the filibuster. Featuring contributions from, among others, @kagrox.bsky.social, Sen. Tom Udall, and @mattyglesias.bsky.social.

The filibuster sucks for reasons that have been well understood for a long-ass time now.

In a functional party system, this kind of capitulation in the face of authoritarianism could mean the end of the Democratic Party.

In our system, it could mean the end of the two party system. Neither party can represent the pro-democracy majority. It's time for something new.
