Texas has recorded more than 3,500 cases of whooping cough so far this year, 10 times the number in 2023.

The uptick has coincided with a decline in vaccination rates for whooping cough, according to disease experts who urge the best way to control the spread is to get vaccinated.

It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

Bandit passed 3 weeks ago, and I still miss him dearly. But 1 week ago I went to the county animal shelter. This is Ace, formerly known as stray A62748.

There just aren't that many guys that want to be cops, are qualified to be cops, and aren't already a cop.

Gotta be honest, I knew plenty of other Marines with Nazi tattoos in the 2000s. They mostly weren't actually Nazis, just young idiots trying to be edgy and badass.

But I never once met a Marine that didn't know he had a Nazi tattoo.
Graham Platner says he will remove a Nazi-linked tattoo. Bernie is standing by him.
The Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate said he didn't know the meaning of the skull tattoo, which he got in 2007 while on leave in Croatia during his time in the Marines.

Haha the international market must learn what anime fans have known for decades. There are things that look cool in animation that no amount of CGI can make work in live action.
The creators of ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ have dismissed the idea of making a live-action adaptation:

“It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn’t work for me.”

A bunch of memorized phone numbers from long disconnected 1990s land lines have been my go to PIN numbers for decades now.
the funniest thing about this is that those of us who grew up in the divide all have a bunch of pre-cell phone numbers memorized and almost none afterwards

I know the home phone numbers of two of my childhood best friends from thirty years ago and none of the cell numbers of my college friends
If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.

I had to put Bandit to sleep last Monday. It was a hard choice, though ultimately all of the alternatives were worse. His senses were still relatively good, he was still lucid, and his appetite was still strong. Most of the time his mobility was still fine, and he was still interested in the world.

This is really, painfully true.
twitter is currently a frankenstein combination of 4chan and tumblr. we all know this. but bluesky is a different beast that i don't think people born after ~2004 fully grasp. bluesky is a frankenstein combination of tumblr and somethingawful

I get the nostalgia but so much of this is just wrong. Wal-mart didn't have live lobsters. They didn't do the sticker thing anymore in 2002. They were famously charmless big box stores where you could never find an employee and there were weird messes on the floor that never went away.
This is doing numbers on social media right now and it's so depressing how people truly yearn for this shit and want to preserve that feeling indefinitely like a mausoleum of false memories.

The wars of Louis XIV should really get more discussion.
can we at least start litigating some different wars? somebody do some wars of the roses posting, that could tie up the timeline for at least two years, you can cross the streams with GoT posting and really deep fry some brain worms
I love how at least once a month we litigate WWII on this website

Random life hack time. Panasonic Let’s Note laptop are durable, easy to work on, and available for $100-200 on eBay because Japanese companies issued them by the millions.

They’re useless for modern games, but if you need a netbook or disposable travel they’re great.
