#Alberta CPR Company to Provide $25,000 in free CPR Training in 4th Annual Campaign to Increase Bystander Support of Cardiac Events

First Aid Training Calgary and First Aid Training Edmonton to provide training in both cities, during Heart Month in February – registration opens on Valentine’s Day
Page 1: For the fourth year, First Aid Training Calgary and First Aid Training Edmonton will donate $25,000 in CPR certification training to Albertans in recognition of Heart Month in Canada. Heart disease affects approximately 2.4 million Canadian adults and remains the second leading cause of death in the country. Yet only 18% of Canadians report ever having been certified to perform CPR. The offer will make it possible for more than 300 individuals to receive complimentary CPR certification, and additional discounted training opportunities available throughout the month will allow even more people to benefit. Registration opens on Valentine’s Day — Saturday, February 14 at 10:00 AM MT — at firstaidtrainingcalgary.com and firstaidtrainingedmonton.com. The initiative was inspired by the life-saving CPR performed on Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin after he collapsed during a game in January 2023. Hamlin later credited his survival to immediate bystander intervention — a moment that sparked a national conversation about preparedness. That year, the company responded with an initiative providing $10,000 in free training registration, which was filled in just 80 seconds. Since then, the program has more than doubled in size and expanded from Calgary to include Edmonton - donating more than $60,000 in training so far for more than 1000 individuals. “In 2023, we were blown away. The spots were gone almost instantly — but what stuck with us were the messages,” said Founder Ben Marasco, who launched the company in 2013. “People told us they had someone in their life at risk — a parent, a Page 2 - partner, a teammate — and they didn’t want to feel helpless anymore. We were extremely moved by our community’s response, and we’re honoured to be a part of that.” “Most of our students come because their workplace requires certification. But cardiac arrest doesn’t wait for you to be on the clock. It happens at home, in grocery stores, on the sidelines. Heart Month is our reminder that CPR isn’t just a professional skill — it’s a life skill.” Due to expected demand, registration must take place online. The first 1,800 hours of CPR training booked will automatically have fees waived. After that, all programs — not just CPR — will be available at a discounted rate using code HEART26 when registering online. Discounts are available until 11:59 PM MT on February 28, 2026. Fast Facts About CPR & Cardiac Arrest ● Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops beating. Without immediate intervention, brain damage can begin within minutes. ● When cardiac arrest happens outside of a hospital, fewer than 1 in 10 people survive. ● Performing CPR immediately — and using an AED — can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. ● Approximately 75% of cardiac arrests happen at home. ● Only about 40% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR before professional help arrives. ● People who present as female are 14% less likely to receive bystander CPR and defibrillation than those who present as male.

So maybe that's not obvious anymore.

Or a combined smoke/CO2 detector for $75.

The USAian lady that won gold in downhill skiing can't even enjoy her win because her dumbass team mate decided to ski on a busted ass knee, and in a surprise to nobody, had to be airlifted off of the mountain after a disasterous crash.
