An extra poem this week. As it's Burns Night you get Address to a Haggis. Be sure to cut into your haggis at the appropriate moment as you're reading it 😀

'The southern wind
Doth play the trumpet to his purposes,
And by his hollow whistling in the leaves
Foretells a tempest and a blustering day.'

Another on my 'Places to visit in retirement '.
On this day in 1882, Virginia Woolf was born.

Away from the hustle and bustle of London, the writer found tranquillity in the Sussex Downs. Her writing lodge at Monk's House was a place of inspiration where she penned many of her major works.

I finally got my camera out yesterday. As the news is bleak and the weather is drear I thought it might cheer people's feeds to share a few photos. These are the busy grey squirrels who visit our garden.

Wow oh wow oh wow. I just loved this book. Many buildings I knew, but also many I didn't. Reading the history and quotes associated with the buildings and period was so interesting. Even on my next visit to Haworth I will have something new to see.

When I was 8 I could identify so many trees just by their leaves. We had such a wonderful teacher who taught us so well. Over the years I've lost a lot of that. Perhaps now I'm retired it's time I learned them all over again.
If you love trees but sometimes just can't quite identify them... you're not alone!

I've decided that this year I am going to try to read more of the classics I have stockpiled. Maybe one a month? I think that might be doable. We'll see how it goes.

Day 24
It maybe a little stormy outside but inside I have fairy lights round my fireplace, I have tea, croissants (Aldi vegan ones) and a good book to settle with later. God is in his heaven and all is well with the world in here.

Whenever I notice the days getting longer or spot my first snowdrops it always reminds me of the forever winter ending in Narnia and I always say "Aslan is on the move." I wonder if people think Im bonkers or just bookish? 🤔

I should explain that aubergine, chillies and onion seeds are worth sowing at the start of the year indoors because they benefit from a longer growing season. Almost everything else can wait til mid-March onwards when it's lighter and warmer.
