Thinking about this more in the context of Hades II. While the Hades games are still fun to play in the moment to moment, they're also _extremely_ progression-focused even for roguelikes. Which is a great engine to get you to keep playing! But it does mean I find it hard to love the game as art
Something I have thought about as I get older is, "why do I play videogames?" Obviously they are fun and are artistic works, but ultimately to an extent they're also skinner boxes and when stuff like this happens it sort of pierces the veil and makes me go "I could've been reading or something"

i love this quote and earnestly think it is one of the most beautiful and resonant things ever said about why we make art as people and what it means to live and share.
and also, i think of it every time i instead of that choose to watch 15 youtube videos in a row

Hard to fit this into 300 characters but: after a very frustrating last minute failure in Hades II I closed it to try and reload my last save and ofc there is no autosaving because it's a run based game. I get it. But as an adult with very limited free time can I please have a "save scum ok" mode

29 long years have passed since I founded the emulation archive, Zophar's Domain, on 11.9.96. To this very day, the site still stands as a testament to an era that never actually disappeared but continues to live in the hearts of retrogamers all over the word. Emulation Forever!

Because SE's QA people are probably not in a position to defend themselves and their jobs in public, I want to spell out some of what it is they specifically do for us localizers, because nothing I've written here is rhetorical. SE QA acts as a final check on our work after translation and editing.
You don't need me to tell you this is yet more good money being burned after bad. But as someone who's worked with that QA team, I'll say they're unsung heroes who truly play a huge role in maintaining SE's reputation for high quality locs and to attempt to replace them with AI is deeply insulting.
Square Enix wants 70% of its QA work to be handled by generative AI by the end of 2027, in partnership with the University of Tokyo's Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory. https://bit.ly/4qKdyQR

If you're wondering how this will go Square Enix handed off their mobile Octopath game to NetEase who immediately started using ChatGPT to translate everything resulting in text like this. When players complained they started asking fans to fix their translations in exchange for in-game currency
