Reading Hannah Arendt, I came across a troubling statement. She says that in the modern world, politics has fallen heir to utilitarianism. Politicians--all politicians--believe the ends justify all means.
We see this every day.
So, here's the question. How do we live with that?

As the Democratic party proves itself useless, more and more people will enter the public realm to speak and act. Their power will grow. Trump and others of his ilk will respond with more violence. Other cities and states in our federation will resist. There will be more blood. Is America great yet?

No one in Greenland wants to be absorbed into the American dystopia. Who can blame them? Leave the Greenlanders alone.

What we get with Trump is a government that believes the ends justify all means, including murder on the high seas, murder of citizens, breaking treaties, invading foreign countries, threats of against universities and elected officials, lying, cheating, stealing.

What we see with the recent killings of protesting citizens is just another manifestation of MAGA's glorification of violence for its own sake. It their desire to tear down the government played out on an individual level. They want nothing new or better, only destruction.

We Americans have always revered the founding fathers who gave us a nation of law. Superstitious, evangelical fools say God gave us Trump to save us. They have lost their minds if they ever had any. We say, "We built this with our own hands. We don't need no stinking king." Pardon the pun.

The no kings rallies are great. But what threatens democracies around the world today is likely oligarchy, not monarchy--rule by a greedy, rich, corrupt, amoral few.

ICE may be a military attempt to maintain order on the streets, but it is doing the job so badly that chaos is breaking out.
