A Multnomah County jury has awarded more than $760,000 to our client Cider Riot owner Abram Goldman-Armstrong after finding defendants associated with the far-right group Patriot Prayer liable for a violent 2019 attack. Even though the justice system moves slowly, we will always stay the course.

AG Rayfield announces investigation into shooting involving federal agents in Portland “We have been clear about our concerns with excessive use of force by federal agents in Portland and nationally. We have also been clear about our intent to investigate circumstances involving federal agents to ensure they are accountable to acting within the scope of their official duties. Today’s incident only heightens the need for transparency and accountability. Our office will take every step necessary to ensure that the rights and security of Oregonians are protected.” The Oregon DOJ is opening a formal investigation into an incident in Portland in which two people were shot and injured during an encounter with federal agents. The investigation will look into whether any federal officer acted outside the scope of their lawful authority and will include witness interviews, video evidence, and other relevant materials. If evidence of criminal conduct is found, cases may be referred to the Multnomah County District Attorney for potential prosecution.

We are deeply concerned by the news that CBP agents have shot two people in Portland. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and we wish them a full recovery. We are at a dangerous moment when our national leaders are defending federal agents’ immunity from prosecution or any real consequence if they choose to harm us. Portlanders deserve the full facts of the situation and accountability from those responsible. We must get trustworthy and impartial answers about what has happened. This incident and the killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis yesterday are part of a larger pattern of law enforcement violence, targeting Black and Brown and immigrant communities in particular, but threatening all of us. Police continue to rely on armed force as a primary response to situations. When CBP shoots civilians in a Portland neighborhood, it underlines how normalized the use of lethal force is. Lack of transparency, cops investigating cops, limited oversight, and paltry legal remedies erode public trust. This shooting reflects how policing in our city and our country is shaped by militarization, over-broad discretion, and a culture that fails to prioritize human life and the safety of our communities. We must defend our community especially our neighbors who are being targeted by the administration.
