As the number of gambling houses has grown across the United States, they are no longer the tourism magnets that they used to be, experts say."

I would still read the postmortem as to why all the people terrified of Zohran Mamdani decided to unite behind the most odious and disliked disgraced candidate running and not a total normie like Brad Lander. Mamdani wasn't inevitable, and hitching that wagon to Andrew Cuomo was a huge mistake.

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

Mayor Adams notably took office without a sweeping policy goal that could leave a permanent imprint on NYC

Yet, he’ll leave office having achieved a lasting legacy when it comes to housing and zoning

Will his reforms make NYC more affordable?

Short explanation of what the deal is with "affordability" in the housing ballot proposals, since people have lots of questions - mainly stemming from the fact that our existing system is so complicated to begin with! (Explanation first, some personal commentary after)

🎂 Happy birthday, #NYCSubway! 121 years ago #OnThisDay in 1904, the IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit) subway opened with 28 stations along a 9.1-mile line extending from City Hall to 145th Street. This #NYTMCollection silent film, shot just months after the subway opened, shows its early days.

Great piece from @errollouis.bsky.social about how important a yes vote on ballot questions 2, 3, 4, 5 is to NYC’s ability to take on our affordability crisis.

You’ll see obfuscation and name-calling, but no solutions from those who say the current system is just fine.

The problem with this post is that the regulated landlords do face fast rising opex costs, and this is true for people who have those distressed Signature loans, who have actual distressed properties, and even for folks with no mortgage at all.
The problem, in other words, is entirely about debt, not the actual costs of providing rental housing. The problem is that building owners expected rents to rise faster than they turned out to, and took out bigger loans than the actual rent increases could justify.
