"2017: The Houston Astros included a removable ring top that uncovered the team's slogan 'Earned History.'"

What's funnier?

The fact that they think their WS victory was "earned;" or

The fact that they actually included a trash can lid on their ring?

To say that Ken Jacobs changed my life is only a mild exaggeration. Taking his class profoundly influenced the way I think about so many things, and indirectly fostered some of the most important relationships in my life.

R.I.P.
Ken Jacobs (1933-2025)

A great artist, a wonderful teacher, & speaking personally, a close friend for over 50 years. Linking to a piece I wrote to mark his 80th birthday.

Even Joan Rivers loved Gwar

Joan Rivers: "Are there a lot of sexual innuendos in your act?"

Oderus Urungus: "There's nothing innuendolous about it. There's a 15 foot long growing penis that spews digestive fluids everywhere."

To be fair, if that's his campaign's official position on NYC traffic, it may be the best policy proposal since Congestion Pricing.

Republican Senators are so worried about people getting shot that they've forgotten how to count to 2, and think that it's the First Amendment that needs to be limited but not the Second.
Kimmel’s suspension prompts free-speech Republicans to reconsider their boundaries
One Republican said she no longer considers the First Amendment to “be sort of the ultimate right,” as she would “in normal circumstances.”

Wondering how @maddow.msnbc.com and @chrislhayes.bsky.social can navigate this. This is one where they need to comment directly and defend truth against their employer.

I’m told Matthew Dowd has been fired by MSNBC after his comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk earlier today.

I can't tell if she's answering his question, or simply stating her own preference. This almost reads as 'flirting' about his sex crimes and they're both monstrous enough that that's not shocking.

"Awful people don't deserve to be killed, but if their death literally highlights their own hypocrisy, I'm damn sure not going to shut up about pointing that out."
“awful people don’t deserve to be killed, but they don’t deserve to be praised, either” is apparently a thought too complex for the pundit mind

"Donald Trump ... who has a much bigger yacht and was happy to compare"

We also know that he (or "John Barron") was the one who leaked this gossip piece specifically saying that he has a bigger yacht, right?
We do know that Trump attended a party on Robert Maxwell’s yacht in 1989. The yacht was named “The Lady Ghislaine”

They chose to hide behind the (still heinous) "it was drug smuggling" because even they know that brazenly murdering immigrants like that is still beyond the pale.

But in spite of this knowledge, they couldn't constrain themselves from actually doing it.

That is the face of utter evil.
There's no remotely good or legal version even if the boat was smuggling drugs, but it is particularly stomach-churning that it appears much likelier from the circumstances to have been refugees they gleefully murdered.

This is exactly the kind of hack that the congressional Democrats need to excise from decision-making

Seeking out safe strategies is the coward's path that has led us where we are, and at least a few of them need to step up, stand on principles, and take a fucking risk like AOC, Pritzker, and Waltz
I typically advise clients NOT to call votes on legislation that will not pass. A roll call that falls short scares away swing votes, leaves proponents politically vulnerable, and often adds credibility to opponents.

It's easy for these guys to get confused - they want to criminalize poverty, so when they see it, they actually do think that "crime" is up.

I'm so tired of reactionary centrists yammering how we should all just "meet in the middle."

There is no middle ground with fascism. It's been clear for decades that the Republican Party are extremists and their ideology needs to be stamped out.

They do not, after all 'have a point.'

This is why all of the polling is suspect. Sure, Zohran is currently ahead in the polls of likely voters, but when you factor in people-who-don't-exist, Adams has a commanding lead.

This is what the GOP has counted on for a generation, and Dem centrists have been all too willing to provide.
To rely on another’s “collegiality” to hide one’s own mischief isn’t fair play.

I am beyond thrilled that Zohran won last night, but I do caution against counting Eric Adams out

Byron Brown wrote the playbook for how he could still win this by becoming the de facto R candidate, and this isn't over
That's what we said for India as well, but between (a) low info voters who think this is the finish, (b) centrists who resent losing & see 2nd chance, (c) R's who will hold their nose for Adams because he's not a socialist, this is a tough fight ahead. Esp if Cuomo doesn't slink away.
