The new @metoffice.gov.uk desktop redesign is awful. Much less information dense, and all the useful information hidden away in tabs at the bottom. I don't mind it looking prettier but how anyone thought this was an improvement I don't know.

Nigel Farage has released ReformUK’s “manifesto” via the Daily Mail, and it’s every bit as unhinged and unserious as you’d expect.
Let’s break it down—with facts.

One for the tram lovers.

Key point is that our cities should have far more powers to raise funds & make transport investments locally.

David (of @createstreets.bsky.social) is right, this kind of thinking should be central to Labour’s house building plans (ie enabling transit oriented development)
It’s time for trams – and Britain needs to catch up
David Milner explains how Europe's thriving tram networks are driving growth and cutting congestion, while the UK's cities struggle with poor transport, high housing costs, and weak productivity

Reframing bad news as good news doesn't stop it being bad news. The important news today is that Fiona Hislop has moved the target for electrification back 10 YEARS because she can't secure the funding for it. But it's been reframed as 'new [diesel] trains for Scotland' 1/2

Did you know that after London, Glasgow has the best suburban rail network in the UK? But it's not without its issues.

So today we’ve got rail expert @garethdennis.bsky.social to give us the good, bad, and ugly of the current system – and then redesign it.

1/ I’ve become an unofficial evangelist for Bluesky. (I don’t work here.)

As a former dir of product mgmt @Twitter, I’m impressed w/ the innovative and courageous choices Bluesky has made.

They’ve come up with a better way to do social media.

Some have asked me how I explain this outcome.

Back from the pub, where we watched a 90yr old man pull into the car park then smash his way through 3 pub benches at breakneck speed. Went to check on him and the first thing he said was "This is the sun's fault." Asked again if he was OK and he said he would be after his 1st pint.
