I've added a "notes" section to the BeepMini website.

It is a bit like a blog, but the notes are shorter and I don't bother with stories. It's my thought process when developing for BeepMini. A bit like BlueSky/ Twitter but with more space and fully in my control.

I am putting the finishing touches to the last Ninja Sparks newsletter of the year. It's rather long and a bit self indulgent and I can't work out if it's interesting. Hopefully people will like it 🤞. You have an hour to sign up on ninjasparks.com to find out what I'm talking about!

@bengrosser.bsky.social Hi Ben, Just seen your stuck in the scroll project and think it's fascinating. Now you have lots of data I think it'd be interesting to add a graph showing hours/day to see how the scrolling behavious has changed over time (if the project worked)

From this article, estimated CO2 emission per day from regular queries vs the AI overview queries is 1,3 tons CO2 vs. 13,25 tons CO2! That's an insane upscale in resource burning for a service that has up to 60% error rate!

@firefox.com Hi - do you have a version of the browser that isn't full of AI stuff? I love using Firefox but have been disappointed to see you adding AI to it, none of it feels neccessary to me. I want something fast and lean and private. AI doesn't help any of those things. Thanks!

I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

I have spent the last couple of weeks refactoring the map editor for beepmini.com - this adds the ability to add additional levels in each game. Today I finally got it loading the old maps from the old version and seeing the tiny thumbnail of Key Kwest is very cool (I think). #gamedev #javascript

@mariobrothblog.bsky.social hi. I vaguely remember seeing some images explaining how collision works in mario 64 and have a feeling you posted it on twitter a long time ago. Do you know what I mean and do you still have the images? I'd love to see them again.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

@tvaziri.com Hi - I heard on the radio today that some movie companies are using CGI in behind the scenes footage to hide the fact they are using CGI. This sounds like a parody/ satire but I wondered if you'd heard of it or if there was any truth behind it?

Whenever you see hateful posts on social media, please remember that about 50% of internet activity is now AI/bots, so it's likely that it isn't even a real person. Don't fall for the crap that's trying to divide us, just ignore (block) and move on.
