Why does anybody pay any attention to The Bulwark? “Perhaps ending the shutdown was the responsible thing to do.” And perhaps monkeys will fly out of my butt.
"There is a non-zero chance we repeat this all over again at the end of January when the funding deal will run out. There’s a reason you’re not supposed to negotiate with terrorists." www.thebulwark.com/p/dems-rewar...
Dems Reward the Hostage-Taker
Perhaps ending the shutdown was the responsible thing to do. But by caving, Democrats risk legitimizing Trump’s maximum-pain shutdown tactics.

Or actually worked a day in your life.
It is incredible — the blind spots you develop when you’ve never, ever been poor.
Trump claims that food stamps "puts the country in jeopardy. People that are able-bodied can do a job, they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up, it's easier."

Bull. Shit.
The administration went all the way to the Supreme Court on Friday night to halt food-stamp funding. 🤡
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

Bull. Shit.
This country attacked two countries, killing hundreds of thousands, now has hit at least two more, on complete lies. Nothing has been done. No one held accountable. Constitution ignored. What do you expect?
Still failing! A consistent failure
People were saying Covid was the litmus test and this country failed. HARD.

So block it. You can do that, right? If not, figure out a way to stop it. Talk is cheap.
I got back to my office after the vote last night and recorded this. There's no way to sugarcoat what happened. And my fear is that Trump gets stronger, not weaker, because of this acquiescence. I'm angry - like you. But I choose to keep fighting.

Seconded. Of course, if they voted otherwise I would have done donuts in their front lawns and trashed their mailboxes.
Thank you, @blumenthal.senate.gov and @chrismurphyct.bsky.social, for voting against this non-deal.

Exactly right. But the media and the Republicans want you to think it's a done deal. There's a chance it ain't. And can't a single Senator block it? I still haven't received an answer to this question.
Is the shutdown over? Not yet.
Tonight’s vote was only step 1 of 5.
There’s still another 60-vote hurdle, amendments, AND then the House.
Pressure matters right now—especially on Kaine, Rosen, Hassan, Shaheen.
Stay loud.

@kaine.senate.gov If you cave -- and up to now I've admired and appreciated you -- I will do everything in my power to support any Democrat who would primary you. DO. NOT. CAVE.

Yep. Can a single Senator block whatever they decide to vote on? Asking in the hopes somebody in the Senate values right over wrong instead of their bullshit political careers.
HOLD THE LINE, Democrats or count on being primaried.

I'd say a banana Republic, but that's an insult to Republics. And bananas.
No due process.

Seconded.
We really need a constitutional amendment to limit presidential pardon power even if it is only possible to pass it after Trump’s term. The founders obviously never envisioned any president using it this brazenly and corruptly while remaining impervious to impeachment.
November 7, 2025 at 1:21 AM
Seconded.
SCOTUS Did NOT give him immunity from prosecution. People need to stop saying that. They gave him immunity in the performance of official duties of the Presidency. All you have to do in court is argue what is and isn't "an official duty." Why the F aren't lawyers challenging all the shit he does?
SCOTUS gave Trump immunity from prosecution.
Congress wouldn’t impeach him no matter what he does.
He ignores court orders.
Ignores Congress.
His cabinet does anything he tells them to even if it’s illegal.
DOJ does too.
And the military.
That’s how autocracies are born.

Better: "How many people have you pardoned that you don't have a clue who they are?"
a reasonable follow up question would be
'then who in your administration does'
'then who in your administration does'

He puts a big ol' D in Dork.
The last time we heard from Brilyn his mommy hooked him up with a private jet to fly to campuses trying to be Charlie Kirk 2.0, two weeks later we learn he has single-handedly slayed the GOP establishment.

I completely agree. With every word.
In a way, I find the authoritarian takeover of our media system even more disturbing than the authoritarian takeover of our political system.
Our political system has been failing basically my entire adult life. But, the media system provided accountability and sort of worked. Now it’s collapsing.

How dare you insult goobers so! Mikey the Prat in many rungs below the G's, and must completely turn his life around to achieve gooberdom. He is Trump's House Elf, and of no value to living things. #SwearHerIn

Reminds me of Douglas Adams’ “Last Chance to See,” where he traveled around the world after creatures bound for extinction. The US can stop its own destruction, though. I think.

Except for the statement the Admiral gave about why he quit. He’s already told the American people. Didn’t you see it? It was clear as the Carribbean.
News on Trump boat bombings --> Rep Adam Smith, top Dem on Armed Services, tells me GOPers are failing to press for testimony from the top Pentagon official who recently resigned, potentially over the strikes.
