my most Gen X coded belief is that cities and the culture at large suffer profoundly for the near-complete death of alt-weeklies
I still think the best idea for progressive donors is to just revive every alt-weekly in the country and staff them with 10 reporters each.

the internet has made many things a lot easier than they used to be. take apartment searching (you can take a virtual tour instead of leafing through newspaper listings) or sports scores (follow live updates instead of staying up for the 11 o'clock news). and those are just a couple of examples
