Knicks will take ‘ugly win’ to end road losing streak: ‘We can build on it’
It was hardly an artistic masterpiece of a game for the Knicks, but when the buzzer sounded, it was recorded as a 113-111 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, their first road win of the se...

At halftime, ESPN is showing a VR cartoon of the game, like they don't have the rights to show highlights. What are we doing? Who wants this? Who asked for this? What does this do?

The NBA should seize control of the Washington Wizards through some sorta eminent domain.

A point I wanted to make here in response to the notion that it is a new phenomenon how expensive/hard it is to watch your team, when that has been a gripe among fans for decades, and really kicked off with games migrating to cable: benkrimmel.substack.com/p/how-much-d...

"But at the end they’re going to hug and Joshua is going to call Paul a warrior, a true fighter, and the pair will hoist their arms skywards, and most importantly Jake Paul’s name will be everywhere, and Jake Paul will live to grift another day." - @jonathanliew.bsky.social

Even before the NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders was going to elicit some wild reactions. But I think Mel Kiper Jr.'s over-the-top histrionics (which I made a central theme in this piece on the absurdity of the televised draft) set the stage for *gestures* all this.
benkrimmel.substack.com/p/well-why-a...
based on my email and responses on other platforms i think shedeur fans are going to be genuinely surprised when the browns draft a QB top 5. i dont know how we got here but the parasocial relationships are far too strong

Of course the Orioles weren’t ever gonna be in hunt for the big-ticket power outfield bats (especially these 3 left-handed hitters). But Trading Grayson Rodriquez accentuates how many of Mike Elias’ eggs are in the ‘must acquire top-end starting pitchers this offseason’ basket.
Two late-night trade thoughts, speculatively:

- The OF market included top-end guys (Schwarber, Tucker) and CFs (Bader, Bellinger) but Os must not have wanted to pursue heavily if they jumped the market here
- They trust Cowser to bounce back offensively and handle every day CF

Odds are Grayson Rodriguez’s arm was just never gonna be OK again, which is a shame. But wonder if Orioles adding another outfielder means trade of young talent is coming next.
The Orioles have swung a deal, trading away right-hander Grayson Rodriguez to the Los Angeles Angels for outfielder Taylor Ward.

Rodriguez hasn’t pitched in a major league game since midway through 2024.

ESPN’s soccer push notifications are just super, super weird. Feel like they really did writer dirty with this one

In this video, the fella says that betting on sports is "part of being a fan, you get some skin in the game, it makes every play matter." Which is actually the antithesis of fandom, becuase fans already have skin in the game and believe every play matters... that's called fandom!
God, Barstool Sports is just the skeeziest company, isn't it?

I am very sympatheric to the notion that ESPN should have more highlights – especially longer highlight packages without narrative conversations – but understand why that isn't the case.

But, ESPN should give us weekend morning SportsCenter: The Hangover that's just a billion highlights in a row.
The thing is now if you want to see the highlights from last nights game you watch them on your phone before you get out of bed in the morning.

If espn was still built around highlights even less people would watch it.
ESPN is such a great example of how shitty the media is now. 25 years ago I turned on ESPN to watch Sportscenter (albeit being aired for the 500th time) where I could listen to Stuart Scott summarize the highlights of a game. Now its just Stephan A Smith and McAfee yelling on every fucking show.

Leody Taveras appears to have a strong arm, solid fielding metrics, and good speed. If he can hit like it is the 2023 regular season (14 HRs, .266 avg, 101 wRC+), that would be ok.

Otherwise, woof, not a great indication of a big offseason in the marketplace coming from Orioles and Mike Elias.
OF Leody Taveras is signing with Orioles, according to a source. Mike Rodriguez and @jonheyman.bsky.social were on it.

The 27-year-old Taveras is a switch-hitter who has previously played for Rangers (2020-25) and Mariners (2025).

Feels like both managers did their best to try and lose the World Series - along with incredible accomplices in every terrible at-bat with RISP - but damn, was Yoshinobu Yamamoto just outrageous.

That was a 92 mph splitter Yamamoto threw that broke Kirk's bat and led to the double play

Not scoring in the top half of extras is such a killer because you're constantly going back to needing six more outs when every ball, every 2-1 count feels terrifying.
