Copenhagen goes absolutely insane for fireworks over NYE. Video from the 7th floor patio of my hotel. It was like being IN the fireworks. Some so close I could feel the heat. The smoke so thick you can’t see that it goes up and down every street in every direction. Insane.

this is the main reason i’m so pessimistic for the oligarch capture of tiktok in the us. have seen a bunch of posts being like “well they’re gonna fuck it up and users will flee” and while there’s plenty of evidence for the 1st claim, you have to square the 2nd claim with ongoing twitter usage. so.
the broad inability to leave a social media platform owned by a white supremacist and prolific manipulator of public perception really is one of the most discouraging data points right now

people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.
We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.
