In 2020, Jim Ratcliffe moved his fortune to Monaco, saving himself an estimated £4 billion in tax.

In the same year, immigrants in the UK contributed around £20 billion in tax.

That says it all.

He isn't complaining about the immigrants helping his team maintain their premier league status.
Don’t the anti-immigration lot ever get tired of all the energy they spend on it? Every society has blamed immigration for everything, throughout history. And we’ll probably keep doing it forever. Just an endless, unimaginative cycle of getting fired up and spun off into the walls.

I've admired Streeting but he's not handled this at all well. Friendships don't always end well. It's something we a can relate to - you think you know someone & something happens revealing who they truly are & it hurts. Disappointment is what he needed to show not self-interest.
This is the funniest headline I seen in a long time. And bravo to whoever underlined the desperation with the juxtaposed link.

I found the exact same spirit during my visit. The people of Cuba do not deserve this collective punishment.
So criminal. Cuba is one of the most soulful places I have ever been. Students in a rundown music school with beat-up instruments playing "I've Got Plenty o'Nuttin." Guys keeping their 60-year-old cars going. Kids on Malecon begging for hotel soap. Beaten but unbowed.

Spot on. And many of the world's leaders are complicit in their failure to call it out.
Trump is doing the same thing to Ukraine. He's done the same to other countries by cutting off USAID.

Trump is literally starving anyone in the world who doesn't ascribe to his beliefs.

Funny how trade with China is normalised while sanctions remain against Cuba. Bullies select their victims based on perceived weakness. The US can't and won't pick a fight with China.
Broad sanctions are at best ineffectual tools for policy change. Targeted sanctions are a little better, but trade is the actual liberating force. The US went from outright enemies with China during the Cold War to non-hostile rivals through massive amounts of trade.

After the colonialism of 19th century & imperialism of the 19th century, post WW2 20th century was hailed as a period of enlightenment. We were supposed to learn lessons if the past. Current times have exposed how those past atrocities could occur. I doubt we'll hear about the impact of sanctions.

This is right on the money! Trump is also signalling to the rest of the Caribbean and weaker nations what could happen to them & their citizens if they don't *serve* their bully-boy neighbour. History will not judge him or his compliant allies well.
