My grandmother was Rosemary, but she was always called Chick. Her sister was Ruth, always called Toots (their last name was Rohl). My ex MIL is Prajeres, always called Cha Cha.

My own damn parents don't call me the full name they themselves put on my birth certificate.
Baffled by transphobes insisting that the name on your birth certificate is Your True Name Forever when it was common in my grandparents' generation to just...pick a name you like and use that, nbd. I literally found out both of my grandma's birth certificate first names FROM THEIR OBITUARIES.

Oops I made a bunch of lists to try to get a handle on the stuff that's stressing me out and now my lists have me stressed.

OMG more adorable press conferences please. Just to balance all the evil ones.
Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

Happy to report that USAA is covering the entire cost of the food spoilage.
It's really upsetting to throw away 5 garbage bags of food!! 11 days was just too long for pretty much anything in the fridge or freezer to still be good.

There's a chance my homeowners insurance will help out here, but still, just throwing away that much food made me very sad.

By saying that YOUR “fun” little dopamine microtransaction is more important than the health and safety of historically Black communities (which are routinely targeted for data centers and their pollution), you are only accelerating harm. You do not have the moral high ground here.

Gosh I love electricity

The best part about recovering from this ice storm and power outage is that I can stop checking Nextdoor

Trump's constant degradation of female reporters is unsurprising but the press corps' collective decision to treat it as background noise is actually kind of sickening

Trying to return to normal after an 11 day power outage is like returning from being out of town that long but also you've been here fucking up your house the whole time too.

BEHOLD!!

However.

The crew said there is something bad in the fuse box at the pole, so I am afraid to get too comfortable. Definitely not buying a bunch of food or starting laundry yet.

But damn, a 55° (and climbing!) house feels downright toasty compared to when it was 39° in here.

There is a truck. And a crew. Working on the line. To my house. That would give me (and 6 others) electricity. After 11 days.

I am afraid to even hope at this point.

Well, the fridge and freezer probably needed a good clean out anyway. I just wasn't thinking I'd be doing it into a trash bag.

Trying to make a list of the things to do once the electricity is restored. It's day 11. It'd be super cool if it came back today.

Came home to check on my house and get some stuff (I left thinking I’d only be evacuating for a few days, that was a week ago). It’s still cold AF in here although it’s up 8° from last week to 48° now.

Day 10, no electricity. Ready to fight the NES CEO in the parking lot.

The failure of the Union to hold accountable the rebellious Confederates led to the abuses of Reformation and Jim Crow. The failure of the United States to hold convicted felon Donald Trump accountable led to ICE.

We must hold ICE accountable.

I also have watched the first season of The Pitt and I’ve been waiting 4 months to go back and read Saeed’s posts about it because he never disappoints!
I’ve made it to the season finale of #ThePitt and I’m stressed and scared and thrilled.

I am reading The Correspondent and lol, Sybil, give Mr. Lübeck a chance! I mean damn! She is STRICT!

The number of little treats I am promising myself once the power goes back on has reached a number that is going to require a winning lotto ticket.

Okay! Day 9 without electricity!! This weekend, having power for 45 minutes and then never again, was depressing. BUT! This morning I am feeling tough and determined now. It will get fixed. I can endure. It sucks and that’s okay.
