if dems take the house but not the senate (and even if they do take the senate, tbh), they’re not gonna have much to do, they should use committee investigative powers to start lining up cases for a dem AG in 2028
Something every 2026/28 Dem should commit to is investigations of any company that did deals with Trump. A kind of forward guidance to get companies to think twice in advance of what’s coming.
Fox News will applaud this but can you imagine their coverage if President Biden hatched a secret plan to take over Fox News and revamp its programming to be nicer to him

The person who Republicans want to have complete control over literally everything with zero checks and balances knows less about how things work than most 5th graders.
there is no available evidence that donald trump understands what a tariff is, what a trade deficit is, and what the national debt is.
The way Trump talks about the problems he caused by unilaterally imposing tariffs is fairly insane, even by his standards.

and i’ll use @donmoyn.bsky.social’s post here to make the point that the other piece of the unitarian view seems to be that the purpose of the executive branch is to be an extension of the president’s will, rather than a tool to execute the commands of the legislature.
At will? Whose will?
Removing independent agency heads is part of a broader assault on a nonpartisan government

Republicans (only when they hold the WH) demand that the President’s agenda more or less supersedes all other elections and offices as the only will of the people as if those other ones aren’t also expressions of what the people want.
the unitarian notion of accountability is, in general, very strange as it holds that a single election — the president’s reelect — is more democratically accountable than the rolling process of democratic assent produced by legislative elections and congressional oversight.

For reasons completely unrelated to any opinions about regulatory policy, a Day 1 executive order here in the US should be ending every government agency account on X. Just delete them all, plain as that. For the same reason the US government need not have accounts on Stormfront or 4chan.
Pretty crazy that nearly all of the EU Commission is still on X even as Elon Musk is literally talking about destroying the EU.

You can leave X. It's really not that difficult.
So what's the outcome?

2️⃣5️⃣ of the 27 Commissioners have posted in the last week

2️⃣4️⃣ of the 27 generally post every week (Albuquerque has never been on X, Ribera is sporadic, McGrath has somehow stopped)

0️⃣ have stopped as a result of what Twitter has become since the Musk takeover

All across Europe, as well as in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, US allies are reading Trump's national security strategy and realizing that it was authored by people who view them as enemies while idolizing Vladimir Putin and plagiarizing from his recent speeches.

Evil is evil even if it’s wrapped in the American flag. The justifications given for these extrajudicial murders and particularly this murder of incapacitated people are flimsy lies. Some people should lose their positions and go to jail for this for a very long time.

Could not be more contrary to American traditions. A gold-bedecked White House with a massive gilded ballroom and a government-created personality cult around the president complete with giant banners of his face on government buildings and official celebrations of his birthday.
When I saw the story in passing I thought it was the same dumb bit as the army parade, the fig leaf of using Flag Day because it happens to also be his birthday. But no, Trump's birthday as such is now an official commemoration for NPS free admission days.

I didn’t believe it was true at first—but the National Park Service has indeed eliminated the the two federal holidays honoring African Americans as free admission days … and added “Flag Day/Trump’s birthday.” You can click through to the NPS site from the article.

There is no legitimate reason not to release the complete Sep. 2 video.

They released video of the first strike. What national security justification could there be for releasing video of the first part of the action but not the second? They wanted to cover up what happened after the first strike.
