I'm getting increasingly worried that coffee breaks (indulging in caffeinated drinks, thus increasing focus and productivity) are not *actual* breaks, but a trojan horse.

Didn't think I would one day look for the accurate adjective to qualify everything that comes in relationship with an aunt, but there I am.

Mainstream AI use and popularity comes from the fact that it's a fascinating toy to use. But whenever craftmanship is involved, it's tools we need. Not toys. The difference lies in how good either is able to respect the author's intent.

'Cause we can't ask AI to make choices for us.

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

This is from Haaretz, an Israeli news site. It proves that Israeli concentration camp soldiers have been ordered to deliberately shoot at unarmed Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid.

No Western media will run this story or even refer to it, because real Western journalism is mostly dead.

Exactly this. I feel like my impostor syndrome is aging like fine wine.
does anyone have the feeling of: the more senior you get the more you’re sure you should never give a talk on anything you have done well because all doing the thing has revealed is that you know a lot less than you thought you did about the subject (as a consequence of learning about it)

Yup, it's time to go. Even through the sorry state of affairs, the Game Camp has been a real joy for me. I'm glad I met so many interesting and helpful people.

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

Some days, I feel like a oily, blood-soaked leather plushie filled with my own ashes.

Nothing a little 90's eurodance mix can't fix, really.

see this so much these days? also with complicated themes or unpleasant choices. really not liking the shift toward having EVERYTHING need to be nice and sweet and cosy and prechewed. humanity is in the full spectrum. in the uncomfortable and the crunchy. that’s not a moral failing on our part
Might be off base here, but it feels like there's a subset of readers that expects every POV character to be "good", and the idea that the character's meant to be complicated, or conflicted, or even unlikable, goes right over their heads and instead they see it as a moral failing of the author's.

We're getting worked up about youths giving in to the ease of AI use, but what can we possibly tell them when they say : "Why bother, when a machine can do it ?"
Talked with a soon-to-be college grad about AI use for term papers.
“I could not have passed college without it”
“It’s too difficult to think through a thesis and write out a bunch of paragraphs about it”
“My field isn’t a writing field, it’s technical”
“I don’t understand why they need us to write”

Quelle perte ! Il avait 67 ans.
