I don't think the US is the ethically worst country to host the World Cup but it actually is likely the most dangerous for fans to travel to. Sportswashing regimes at least have incentive to treat sports fans well - the US on the other hand is addicted to performative cruelty to travelers!

I just called Kitchener bylaw on @regionwaterloo.bsky.social, because the unplowed sidewalk on Victoria St between ION Central and Kitchener GO is an absolute embarassement.

CC @mattrodriguez.bsky.social is there some way to force the Region to be better at snow removal *on its own property*?

In May, the UK cooked a "tariff deal" with Trump. (www.reuters.com/world/europe...)

In July, the EU signed one. (commission.europa.eu/topics/trade...)

It only took a few months for Trump to blow it all up (www.cbc.ca/news/world/d...). There's no reason to "negotiate" with him. Totally unreliable.

Ottawa has so many schools directly on arteries rather than 1 block off arteries like the city I was a teen in.

Jeanne d'Arc was planned as a traffic mover but has 2 elementary schools and a high school within about 5 blocks. Kids lose with these conflicted designs.

1. Stretch Edu dollars further by getting rid of publicly funded Catholic schools
2. HTA reform (incl. higher fines, income adjusted, with avg speed enforcement through on/off-ramp cams)
3. Give municipalities more taxation/spending levers (control over police budgets, property tax reform)

@joeldryden.bsky.social In my experience pre-clearance is good if you have a US layover. But for a direct flight, it's better *not* to have pre-clearance (ie. YTZ > YYZ for direct flights), because you don't know if the wait to clear will make you late.
