they had goth baddies in the 17th century as evidenced by the fact that a woman named Caterine Morte had a skull coat of arms

My wife encouraged me to watch Les Miserables so I would fully appreciate the extent to which Javert's name is not pronounced Djavvett. Anyway long story short, turns out there is NOT a guy named Leslie Miserables; it's called Les Miserables because it's about French people.

For better or worse, there IS precedent for this. Like that time the govt told Johnny Depp they would kill his (illegally imported) pet dogs unless he recorded a video alleging that Australians are a warm and welcoming people.
the government forcing the wiggles to do a podcast episode as punishment really shifts the Overton window of regulatory enforcement possibilities

Worms is part of a genre of “artillery” computer games that we thought went back to the 70s, until we discovered it actually went back to the 60s. In this thread, Kevin Bunch reveals he’s unearthed long forgotten footage of the lost game that started it all.

"It's time we had a talk. They taught you about sex in school, right? OK great bye."
did anyones parents *actually* talk to them about sex?

its been a plot point in like every TV show and movie about raising kids for like centuries at this point but does it actually happen?

i think "the birds and the bees" speech is entirely a ficticious construct

When I first got to Melbourne I was shocked at the obvious class divide in funding for public transport & it has not changed. The leafy private school suburbs have much better & more public transport than anywhere else, while the West has almost nothing. #Vicpol www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...
Jarrod lives 13km from work. His commute often takes more than an hour
About one in five people in this suburb are unemployed, while a nearby employment precinct is almost unreachable without public transport links.

We (mostly my wife) cooked Sohla's "future brownies" recipe this week.
They came out a bit like brownies, and a bit like chocolate mochi. Not bad.
