“Ottawa’s preference for disgruntled American academics deemed stars may seem clever, politically satisfying even, but it could very well turn our biggest research universities into U.S. intellectual branch plants at our expense.“
Opinion: Ottawa is dangling money for American researchers. But what about our own?
For hardworking and idealistic young Canadian scholars, the reality is bleak

Today I stumbled across a photo exhibition by Matar Ndour and learned about the Mandé Charter of 1236.
TRT Afrika - Matar Ndour: His camera traces the footsteps of 13th-century Africa's rights roadmap
A Senegalese photographer's journey through the heart of the region where the Mandé Charter took shape in 1236 reveals how Africa's constitutional traditions predate Western notions of human rights.

i can never say enough how when i look for movement elders, the people i see still doing the work are the people who made space for music, art, relationships, and joy

people think it is cliche, but you really cannot pour from an empty cup. and that doesn’t mean you take a bubble bath every week.
oldhead advice from an oldhead.

every couple years, newcomers to the movement think "THIS is finally it, the moment when the dam breaks and the whole system is overthrown"

and when it doesn't happen they lose patience and get disillusioned and drop out of movement work

gotta build for long term

There are many, many people still viewing world events like today's through an ideological prism, as if the Trump regime has coherent or principled worldviews.

The sane among us realize Trump could just as easily "capture" the Canadian Prime Minister next month, on a whim.

Your local librarian here to say that it’s great if you read lots of books this year, alright if you read barely anything, that audiobooks, romance and graphic novels are all valid formats and genres, and that some authors suck but we’re still not stopping you from reading them.

Attempted some "creative mending" techniques that I learned at a library workshop to deal with holes in my good linen sheets.

Have also learned not to hang them to dry so close to the ground where the rabbits can reach them.

But the renewables section. China's emissions decreasing. This is where real, tangible hope lies.
