It is not out of humanistic values but pragmatism that I am against political violence ; at the moment you don't want to hear what my humanistic values are calling for, especially regarding the US government and current ruling coalition.

love that software developers are advertising AI functionality in every single app now and it's up to you to try to figure out if they mean "this has spellcheck" or "everything you create in this app will sync in real-time to sam altman's personal laptop" or something in between

Agree

I worked in a school for children with profound disabilities and had to counter argue weekly with non disabled people who said “chat gpt is a disability aid, it helps students to write”. No, it does not, and in fact it steals work from other disabled creators- it isn’t safe or an aid.
Stories about Meta's glasses "helping" blind people infuriate me. Ah yes. Because the greatest indignity is having to ask people for help. Never mind that relying on such technology 1. Absolves society from ever making any serious efforts to re-examine its values and practices

Non disabled people LOVE to defend their use of the worst tech by saying it can somehow help the most marginalised . Even when it absolutely won’t or can’t

I obtained, started reading and eventually skimmed a whole fucking book on correct use of psychics for US police forces

this was in the course of researching voice stress AI lie detectors, which don't fucking exist either and 100% of people selling this stuff should be in jail

we’ve been over this

we just did this in Massachusetts

they’re not gonna leave, they’ll whine and bitch and moan and eventually this will raise more money than expected because nowhere they go is actually like the place they’re leaving
Billionaires are considering cutting or reducing their ties to California by the end of the year because of a proposed ballot measure that could tax the state’s wealthiest residents.
A Wealth Tax Floated in California Has Billionaires Thinking of Leaving
It’s uncertain whether the proposal will reach the statewide ballot in November, but some billionaires like Peter Thiel and Larry Page may be unwilling to take the risk.

Russia just bombed the main highway leading into Kharkiv - heavy traffic with families returning home after Christmas - cars are burning with people in them.

And we discuss signing something with them?

Bullshit. They're not going anywhere. They're like cops, threatening to storm off whenever things don't go their way.

Where you going, bitch? Iowa? I don't think so, you live in CA for a reason.

I was once young, but now I am old, and I remember many, many viruses, exploits, bugs and crashes that happened because of the tiny, insignificant errors that crept into even the most carefully crafted, exhaustively QA'd software over the decades. I shudder to think of what's to come.
Can't wait for the loosened up, non-perfect, but quickly shipped AI-enhanced updates to hit my banking and insurance services next year.

Im sure there will be no issues there at all.

This. Is. IMMORAL. it is *GASLIGHTING.* And far worse than garden-variety gaslighting, as the victim has much- reduced chances of ever *catching* you at it. It’s not about *them* feeling any better. It’s about YOU feeling better. Anyone who would do this to a relative has abandoned their humanity. 😡
The comments on this are all about how sweet it is and I feel insane. Using AI to make fake memories of your grandma with dementia and telling her they happened and then filming her reaction
