The attacks on trans rights, which are basic human rights, are a terrible injustice and an attack on truth and fact as well. Everyone should be deeply alarmed and it should be disqualifying for a politician to support such discrimination.

If I had money I would start a liberal radio broadcast and create affiliate stations around the country on AM and FM

The left is underestimating the power and relevance of broadcast radio.

More accessible and verifiable than the internet, listening to the radio is a low-cost communal activity.

The fascist right doesn’t believe that American Jews belong in America. They want us to live in our own ethno-state—not here.

People like Zohran believe America is a multiracial democracy in which everyone should belong.

It’s insane the latter is treated as antisemitism.

Just graded a student project in my computer art course to rewrite the chicken-crossing-the-road joke. They make storyboards to tell the joke visually, and in this one, the chicken saves a baby duck from being run over by a tractor, which isn't funny but touching and life-affirming in every way.

Thinking again of Kalergi’s concept of the 19th century as the struggle for liberty, the 20th for equality, and the 21st as defined by the struggle for fraternity

I think there's a decent chance that the Pope visits Chicago during this presidency and while there asks to see Broadview and I wonder how that plays out.

Tonight I’m raising a glass to the women standing up to the most ruthless and violent institutions and people on the planet, in the halls of Congress and the White House, in skrums and online. This isn’t easy, and thousands of people with more safety and comfort aren’t doing it at all.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

I want to uplift the women hearing in these stories the echoes of their own, the many countless women who have been survivors because the world decided that they were expendable because all women & girls are expendable if a man might be inconvenienced by them & all of our bodies are free game.

You see how progressive politics can win in the cities. Now come back to rural America and help us take over the country.

Over 10,000 killed within three days.

Pools of blood around a hospital so large they could be seen from space.

An absolute nightmare.
“Individuals on the ground sent a message that reached us Monday morning that 1,200 were dead,” Nathaniel Raymond, the lab’s executive director, said. “By that evening, they said 10,000. By Tuesday, we couldn’t reach them anymore. We assume our ground contacts are dead.”

Now is the time for Medicare for All
Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.
