Eustache Dauger, titled the Man in the Iron Mask by Voltaire, died today, November 10, 1703 in his room at the Bastille, Paris, France. He probably died of a heart attack. He was buried in the Bastille parish cemetery a few blocks down the rue Saint Antoine the next day, November 11.

If the over 65 population, who get a covid shot, are surrounded by people who are sick with covid or might be sick soon, those of us who are over 65 will be as afraid to leave our homes as if we hadn't had a shot. Our immune systems are faulty. That's the point of all this!

@alivitali.bsky.social Am watching Ali Vitali anchor the MSNBC news this morning about the raid on Bolton's home and office. Showed a clip of Trump saying he didn't know anything about it. That's a lie. He lies. He lies. News reporters need to refuse to accept what he says as truth.

I have been trying to leave messages with senators & congress people to protest the military takeover of the country. All the voicemail recordings cut off after 60 seconds. How can we force congress people to register our complaints? It costs almost a dollar now to mail a letter. I can't afford it.

I do have more optimism for the future than I did at inauguration, simply because I think this strategy of "break everything all at once as fast as we can without any window dressing" is not sustainable and is going to manifest public fury in the coming year.

Living a moral life in an age of bullies requires collective action; it cannot be done alone. Each of us must organize and participate in a vast network of moral resistance. From this solidarity we will grow stronger. This is what our current moment requires.

On October 17, 2016 I wrote this to authors of a Politico article on Trump: "To Ms. Glasser and Mr. Kruse: Your Q & A on Trump "...very dangerous man..." was excellent but while I admire you and your guests for getting a lot right, you are missing the story. What is going on with Trump is 1/4

I sometimes wondered, while I was writing my book on Eustache Dauger, whether there were any cats or dogs in the prisons where he lived, or even if he had a regular cat or dog visitor? The documents of the case are silent about this.

OTD July 14, 1789, the men who stormed into the Bastille had an agenda: one item on the list was to learn who the Man in the Iron Mask was. He had died in the Bastille on November 19, 1703, but he hadn't been forgotten by conspiracy theorists, (1

Let's dig a bit deeper into all that's going on with trade, tariffs and the economy.

The wonderful @sykescharlie.bsky.social sat me down for a chat minutes after Trump started sending the "trade letters," so you may see me a little unplugged (but hopefully analytic)

The Tour de France is finishing in Dunkirk, France today. It was Captain de Vauroy, sergent of Dunkirk, who was sent by Louis XIV to arrest Eustache Dauger, later named by Voltaire as the Man in the Iron Mask. Dauger was arrested near Calais. Where was he? No one knows. #skystorians

For 15-20 years I have had this idea for a woman's purse that has dividers across the purse rather than parallel to the sides so that you can "file" your purse items, most of which are rectangles that would fit down into the purse with the end up. No more digging down into a dark pit. (1 of 2)
