#booksky From my 2004 book *Well Worth a Shindy.* The round temple is DUGALD STEWART’S MONUMENT, Calton Hill, Edinburgh. It was built by William Henry Playfair and C.R. Cockerell in 1831. The temple is a copy of the Lysikrates Monument in Athens. Book has info on over 100 similar temples.

(3 of 6) Saint-Denis. Remains of the heart of Louis XIV, stored in a separate place, were sold to a painter to make a brown color called mummia. On March 3, 1819, the artist returned to what was left of the heart and it went back to Saint-Denis.

(1 of 3) I explain in *Second Son" the palatal obturator that the Man in the Iron Mask (Eustache Dauger) might have worn on the trip from Exilles to Cannes in 1687. It was reported by Voltaire to have been an "iron mask" but this is grossly untrue. 17th century craniofacial medicine

The Citadines apartment hotels are wonderful. Fix your own free breakfast at home, heat up coffee, finish off that strawberry pastry you saved in the fridge from yesterday. The Citadines are all over Paris, some more $ than others. Nice one near the Opera next to Passage des Princes
