It's trivial compared to everything else but it was Mandelson who first started the privatisation of Royal Mail in 2009. He was probably still involved in 2013 when Lazard, who he worked for, became advisors to the coalition government. They made over £8 million in a week after privatisation.

Down the pub. The Jukebox has just played Ace Of Spades live. Good stuff. Next up, some reggae tune I had to Shazam. Too Rude by The Rolling Stones. I never knew they had a reggae phase. Mind blown.

I don't vote along party lines, I prefer independents who are free of the party political shitshow here in the UK, but the more I read about Polanski the more I'm leaning towards the Greens. I'm not naive enough to believe they'll do everything they say but just half of it will be an improvement.

I suppose I should thank my new loud neighbours for forcing me to listen to Radio 6 to cover their constant jabber.
Today I've listened to some rather good modern jazz and I'm even enjoying Craig Charles' funk and soul show.
Me. Enjoying jazz and funk. For the first time ever. I'm 57.

Got the radio on in the background. There's jazz playing. All of a sudden Fugazi and The Ex get mentioned. Who are they talking to? No-one in the UK mentions The Ex these days.

With music venues in crisis, does celebrating them as places where bands appeared on the way to fame overshadow their true purpose as the places in which music is played for the sake of communal joy?

Please spread this far and wide, as stories don't get much bigger than this. When the government blocks even the intelligence services from telling us we're heading for environmental catastrophe, you know we have a problem. A very big problem.
Thank you.

The UK government didn't want you to see this report on ecosystem collapse. I'm not surprised | George Monbiot
It took an FOI request to bring this national security assessment to light. For ‘doomsayers’ like us, it is the ultimate vindication, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

This reminds me of the Conservative standing in Surrey Heath after Gove resigned saying his links to the constituency included being at the RMAS for a while. That's in Bracknell Forest.
He lost. First time in my lifetime we haven't had a Conservative MP.

Metro false headline:

“Almost 90 arrested over mass trespass at prison in support of hunger striker”

There was no “trespass”. It was the public entrance, accessed through the public open gate. A few entered the public visitor lobby via the open door.

🚨URGENT: over 20 pro-Palestine supporters, at Wormwood Scrubs for hunger striker Umer Khalid, have been arrested - and it's likely it will hit 50. One of those arrested was Canary videographer Ibrahim Abul-Essad, who was filming the protest and not directly involved.

Delighted to see they still sell Matey bubble bath. It was Mr Matey when I was a kid in the 1970s but we've moved on from then.
I used to love this stuff!

There isn't a decent site that just lists gigs in the UK like we used to have in Sounds / NME etc.
There used to be one tied to a punk website but that's bitten the dust.
Might have to do the DIY punk thing and start one myself.

Now then - how does one start a website?

Checking local gig listings. Saw GWAR playing in a venue in Reading I've not heard of before.
1. I didn't know they were still going.
2. £60 to see them is very steep.
3. Click on listing to see if it's a festival or something only to find it's Reading, Pennsylvania, not UK.
1 and 2 are still valid.

Why do people feel the need to write "source?" under a post instead of looking it up themselves? I've just read a thread where there at least three of them asking it, even though the source was in the thread multiple times before their post.
I suppose some people need to be spoonfed information.

British Airways will be on the phone to Starmer begging he doesn't put reciprocal tariffs on Boeing and GE.
They buy from Airbus and Rolls Royce as well but have a lot of 777s and GE powered 787s due in the next few years and they really need them to replace their 30 year old aircraft.

What’s happening in the United States has been happening since the “end” of slavery when they introduced, the Vagrancy Act of 1866. They then introduced Sharecropping, followed by the 13th Amendment, this continues today. What we are witnessing isn’t anything new, stop referring to the Gestapo.
